It's Sapien.

C'mon people, I'm a horrible speller.

And to take a screenshot, just maximize the game window, press "Print Screen" on your keyboard, then go into mspaint>edit>paist. Viola.
You shouldn't need any fancy programs.

Paint is fancy...

To open up paint, open the start menu, and type in paint. If you are using XP, then you have to go through the process of Start Menu>Programs>Accessories>Paint. If you're using Mac... no paint.

Kind of contradicting yourself there.
No, in HEK the name is sapien.
Halo wiki argees with me
Quote: Quoted from halo wiki. http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_Editing_Kit
The third program is Sapien. Following the primate theme, Sapien opens scenario tags (the early map files) and creates a visual representation of the final map. Mappers can insert vehicles and weapons, place spawn points, and make camera points for cutscenes. Everything that can be positioned in the map physically is done with Sapien. This is considered by most fans to be the easiest program, and is comparable to Forge in Halo 3.

Fraps is perhaps /the/ worst video recorder on Earth. If I wanted some fancy screenshot program, I'd just use XFire. Otherwise, I'll settle for good ol' fashioned "Prt Scr" (Print Screen).

As for video recording? I'd get HyperCam before I used Fraps... But I'll stick with Camtasia Studio, since it's actually good quality, unlike the former mentions.

FRAPS is very good, i don't need some fancy hypercam to encode the video's for you, that's for the lazy people, and xfire doesn't do the job that well at all, and doesn't work on sapien

Sapien in latin means Wise, I'll stick with a hobo though, i like the line MS = g@y in the bottem corner lol (latin class isn't optional, so i didn't chose it because i wanted to lol)

FRAPS + Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum + Photoshop 11 CS 4 = Win @ Video's

Hypercam is awful quality too, but I've bad more issues with Fraps being terrible framerate. At most, you can get 30 FPS recording... And, XFire doesn't work on Sapien? XFire works on everything. You can get screenshots of your desktop, or even Internet Explorer, with XFire. Unless somehow you run Sapien full-screen, it'll work, last I checked. I've never had a problem with it.

Regardless, Camtasia Studio 5 is still the best quality recorder there is for Windows. And, Vegas Movie Studio? No thanks. I think I'll have the full version, which is simply "Sony Vegas". I don't want a chopped down version... But, Photoshop CS4 is good. I still have CS2, but eventually I'll upgrade... I don't need CS4 for videos though, it's a /photo/ program.

... Though I think Adobe needs to beat out Sony, and make "Videoshop", because they could /easily/ make Vegas look as terrible as MSPaint in comparison.

I named CS4 because I usually make some annotations in them since that can do more than any video editor could.

Wut? What I mentioned IS the full version, and I'm working on it smoothly for a long time already

Fraps does lower your fps a bit, i can't dissagree, but then again, who wants to make vids on crappy computers? I'm running a Geforce 8800 GT OC'd and I record at 45 fps average in Crysis Warhead =)

If Adobe makes a videoshop, I'll crap my pants =O

And how would Xfire work out of a game? I mean, only time i'm able to do stuff with xfire, wich i totally don't need to with this expensive software, is when i'm running a full screen game that is indexed by xfire, otherwise i can't use it at all

So, opinions may differ, but my PREFERENCES are
FRAPS for the recording to RAW footage + Photoshop 11 CS 4 for nice annotations and titles and so forth + Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum as I havn't heard of any better program yet wich has more features, except Adobe Videoshop, lawl

No. Look it up.

There are two versions; Sony Vegas, and Vegas Movie Studio.

Two quotes, one from Sony Vegas' wikipedia page, another from Sony Vegas Movie Studio's wikipedia:

Quote: The consumer level Sony Vegas Movie Studio version (formerly titled VideoFactory and Screenblast) shares the same interface and underlying code base as the professional Vegas version, but does not include professional features such as advanced compositing tools, while 24p editing support is only official with Sony Vegas Pro

Quote: Sony Vegas Movie Studio is a consumer-based nonlinear video editing software designed for the PC. It is a scaled-down version of Sony Vegas. Vegas Movie Studio was formerly called "Sonic Foundry VideoFactory" and then "Sony Screenblast Movie Studio," still using the same Vegas interface and underlying code base as it currently does. Since Version 6, there have been two versions: Vegas Movie Studio+DVD and Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum Edition, which adds AVCHD/HDV and 5.1 Surround capabilities.

But otherwise, yes; opinions will differ from person to person.

I'll settle with Vegas 7, Photoshop CS2, and Camtasia Studio 5.

It's actually kinda funny, since Camtasia 7 (Correction; 6. 7 is still in production.) is the most recent, Vegas 9 (correction; only Vegas Movie Studio 9 exists; Vegas is only at 8.0c) is the most recent, and CS4 is the most recent. I'm /always/ two steps behind. I have FL Studio 6, when 8 is out; 3DS Max 9, when Max 2009 (11) is out; even Nero 7 when 9 is out... Oh well.

Wasn't 3dsmax 2010 released just yet? I think DEE had a topic about it...

Yea I know what you mean, just get used to one, then another comes out

I didn't knew Vegas 8.0c was better... thanks for the info, i bet you can guess what i'm doing right now =P

Nope. 2010 is in production. '09 was just released in April of '08. So, you can assume that means '10 won't be out until spring time.

It was obviously sarcasm. Also, I agree, fraps would be a good choice. If you had fraps. Even the unregistered version has a good screenshot feature.
