im not sure about this(just taking a shot at it), but after looking at the actor_variant tag:

have all of the weapon firing values set to 0 (firing distance, rate of fire, projectile offset and error, etc.)

set the desired combat range to» 0 to 0 world units

and set the melee range the same as what the firing range would have been

tell me if this works for ya!

If you want marines and others like that to melee, you have to set up the animations. For units that already have it, you can use the magic melee command to force them to melee, or just set berserking.

Or you can do it the most straightforward way - in the actor_variant tag, just set it so they can't use ranged weapons (It's one of the checkboxes at the very top.), then in the Melee section of the actor_variant tag, set it so they attempt to charge you from a considerable distance. Look at an Elite Commander with an energy sword for details.

Now, if you're talking Spartans, you'll have to set up an animation for them to melee. The one I used is the throw-grenade animation - it's the only one that they actually smack you with. The others do no damage, presumably because there's no "melee" marker to mark where the damage is.

Its a script. Forces them to melee. But if you want AI to melee, then preferably just set the berserking range. Otherwise, do what drillinstructor said, but they won't be able to shoot.

No need to get complicated. Take a look at the flood tags and see how there AI is.

I don't think the script will help you. What it does is it forces the unit to melee, right then and there. As soon as the command is invoked, the unit will melee.

If you use Kornmann's Guerilla V2 and duplicate any of the melee animations of the spartan and change their type from "replacement" to "base" animations and give them a Key frame (marking on which frame the melee damage is dealt), those animations work for meleeing just fine.

Do you want to melee with a weapon or without?

I already know to do that. Problem is, they do the animation, but don't do any damage - in fact, they don't even touch you. They just keep trying to smack you. That's what I was talking about.

Then the above won't help you (much). Do you want them to only be able to melee, or be able to shoot as well?

Ok. Then open up the actor_varient tag, scroll down, and find berserking. Set the range. By the way, what character do you want to do this for?

Just set the berserking. Open up the brute / elite actor varient, scroll down to berserking, and copy that into the cyborg. Then, I guarantee they will melee.
