Ah Windows 7, the pinnacle of the new age of Operating systems. Right now still in beta phase, but still usable and very stable. I decided to try this new OS by Microsoft out, and noticed something peculiar, whenever I try to start up Custom Edition, my computer just happens to freeze itself up. I have it in windowed mode, console, and in compatibility mode of XP SP2, and yet is still freezes itself up.

Is there any way for it to work yet? Or is this step in Windows 7 beta not stable enough to run a simple game like Halo Custom Edition?

Right now i'm on beta build 7000, and if i'm correct, it's the latest one out right now.

My advice:
I would just stay with Vista or XP until 7 is fully debugged and final.

I can't run veesta on this computer, and I don't really want to go anywhere else. Even if this is a beta, it seems really stable so far.

Try disabling desktop composition? I dunno, that worked for HEK+ when it froze on Vista.

Tried this just now, and no luck.

Have you done anything special for it to work? Like use the Vista patch or something?

It also works perfectly normal for me, except that i installed a load of tools recently that made me have to restart, then i got a fatal error, so i have to reinstall windows 7 =/ i guess that's why they say on the site, don't use this windows for daily use...

Well this is lame. So I did a fresh reformat/install of 7 and tried to run CE again, and in windowed mode it keeps freezing (like it did before), and I just now tried to run it in fullscreen and said that "Hardware Acceleration is disabled, please run DXDIAG." What's that supposed to mean, and why is it saying it?

OH, I figures it out. Go to your display settings then click advanced. Find the "Troubleshoot" tab, click on it. It should say hardware acceleration. bring it down to 0

Make sure your graphics card driver hasn't done something funky. It did something similar to this with Portal, when I change the Res on it, and I couldn't open Sapien. This was mainly due to my driver to being set correctly. I'm just throwing out an idea of something that could be a case.

I haven't touched anything with my gfx card, so I don't think anything should be messed up with it. I tried running it with Hardware Acceleration at 0 and it gave me the "Run DXDIAG" crap error, and I tried running it with full, and guess what? It froze my PC! (This is as much of a pain in the butt as trying to get CE to work on Linux)

Maybe it has to ironically deal with your type of graphic card? I'm glad I saw this ahead of time because I'm sure my computer would have exploded if I switched to Windows 7.lol.

My gfx card ran perfectly fine on XP, but since I went to 7 it hasn't. Plus, the only thing that doesn't work with my specs on this is Areo, which I don't care about.
