Ok. So I've noticed that when threatened by melee attack at close range, Halo 1 jackal AI will just act as idiots and stand there, allowing any easy kill by melee. Some might even back away, exposing their flank and letting you kill them.

I was fooling around with bump possession, and noticed the Jackals had an unused jump animation. I was wondering.....is it possible to mod the AI file so that the Jackal jumps backwards to gain a better position/escape from melee attacks?

If so, how do I do it?

So have I. However, I did see an Elite jump ONCE in POA for no reason. And Elite Commanders with swords usually perform a super jump to get nearrer to you in Bungie's original campaign.

The reason Elite commanders jump is because they are marked to do so in their actor tag. If you notice, when you jump toward them (yes, I was crazy enough to try), they'll smack you out of the air. In their actor tag (more specifically, the melee part of their actor tag), they're set to leap at you if they get within a certain distance. If you jump at them, they will always jump at you.

You can script them to jump too. That is probably what you saw in the POA.
