Ok, well i updated my graphics thingy ma bob,
so now, every once in a while as im moving around on any map, blood gulch, peril, etc.

there seems to be this wierd colorful ray of rainbow coming from the top left screen,
at first i try to ignore it, but then eventually, it pissed me off.

Now this is what i've tried to do to get rid of it.

-Reinstall all halo. (did not work)


Can anyone help me? "Please please help me help me"????

did you get a new graphics CARD? if so then you might need to get a new driver, if you have a nvidia card then go the nvidia site and go to drivers. if that doesnt work maybe you want to turn some settings lower.

do you leave your computer on all the time? is it a laptop? and how hot does it get?
post a screenshot of what happening. if im right in my assumption about what it is, this is a graphics card problem.

I did not get a new graphics card

What i did was my friend updated my computers graphics something, image procossor, ill call him up later to ask what it was.

all it did was simply... update, then when i started up halo, this problem occurs.

that is quite amazing. does your laptop get very hot? mine gets really hot so occasionally i get odd graphical errors when playing oblivion.
but you mentioned an update? it could just be the drivers. google the software drivers for your graphics card and see if there is a new, new update you can get for it

My laptop doesnt get hot, i thought someone in these forums incountered this problem once -_-

I'm pretty sure it's not Vista's problem. I can run it fine with all the updates installed. Did he modify your drivers in any way?

ok i talked to the friend

this is what happened

in the little search bar, when you press start i typed in device manager.

once there i clicked the + sign next to Display Adapter,

then i updated the USB Human Interface Device by right clicking it and selecting "update driver software..."

Does it only happen with certain maps, or all of them?

well certain maps, it does not seem to be doing any thing on cmt_snow_grove.

every other map has the same thing,
except sciophobia has this black ray instead of a rainbow ish

i think it is that one setting it is specular try turning that off and see im on vista and that never happens.

nope, when i look at the ground, literally when im looking everywhere.
including in maps where there aren't any skys

Does it occur on the basic Halo CE maps, or in standard Halo?

did you google for new drivers? also try playing a different game and see what happens. that way we can tell if its your graphics card or halo

it sounds more like lights problem. are you sure you didnt changed any setting?

it occurs on all my halo maps.

It does not affect other games, like counter strike, half life, stepmania, s4 league, roman empire, etc.

Does it move around when your facing the sun (on the map)?

nope, it just stays at the top left of the screen where ever i look, at first i thought it was coming from the sun, but its not.

Turn Vysnc on.

ive got the same problem

i think its due to dynamic lights (flashlight, warthog headlights, ect)
you can make it stop by turning off specular only downside is that you lose shinnyness on certain metals and real time reflections

did you try turning vysnc off?

no my vsync is on, but explain to me how turning off vsync is going to help me?

It allows the framerate to climb up, until it starts lagging, then it falls, and repeats the cycle. Useful.

It's similar to a problem I had with a corrupted downloaded map file. When I started up Halo, the ring planet on the startup screen had a bright rainbow pattern, and you couldn't read the text or hear the music. I moved every map from the map directory except the ones that came with Halo, and the problem went away. I eliminated a couple of the latest downloaded maps, and found the culprit.
