Hmmm maybe the only reason the new high qualioty lightmapping looks horrible in that map is because... 1. maybe you don't have the best graphics card (seriously no offense). 2. maybe it's because of shaders idk tho i am about to try the tutorial thank you DEEHunter :D !

That is very bland imo. It just uses pure white for its lightmaps. My method simulates a physical sun. Besides. I made mines look beter :P.

Actually yes. And it can even simulate the caustics of the glass. BUT you will need to set up the material to be glass.

You would need to set up the lights in 3ds max. Using lights like omni and spot lights will work.
