If you see the problem here, its that I do not have a "X, Y, and Z" moving axis.

I select an object, and can only move it in the direction the view is set too.
I need that little thing back, it would help a lot.

Well, it doesn't for me, I have tried that button more than once before, nothing happens to mine. (BTW, I am using 3ds max 8.0)

It's a glitch from time-to-time the Gizmo will just disappear, the best thing to do is restart. I forget how an instructor fixed this, but I think it was seriously just like "Wow! Ok it's back!" haha

If that X, Y, Z thing is the gizmo, how do I get it to allow me to move either, on the Z axis, or the Y axis, or the X axis?

The gizmo no movable capability, its just a directional arrow! I have to switch windows to allow me to move ONE different direction.

Or you could just restart the program like he said to fix it.

Seriously, if you press x, it will enable the transform gizmo. If it didn't, you changed your default hotkeys around so look at the hotkey map to see which button will enable it. It's not that hard.

Do not get mad, I have tried that, no luck.

And what do you mean by restart? like exit and open it again? if so, than it hasn't for a long time. (My 3ds max has been like this for a long while, about 3 months or so.)
