Hello, I am in the process of making my first map, everything's fine until I get to the Build-Cache-File part, using tool++ I followed the steps and when told the command finished, I received the line "Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'", and I can't find the map file that was supposed to be made, please help >.<

Also, I do find a Tag_Dump in my Halo Directory.

It doesn't matter. Have you tried playing the map ingame? I get this error every time I attempt to compile a cache file, and my map's still play through fine.

Are you using Vista? Did you check to see if you can access it in-game?

If so, Vista is hiding your map file.

"Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'" always occurs - unless you use Notepad to create an empty map file called toolbeta.map in the main Halo Custom Edition directory. It's nothing to worry about.

Holy a$$ crackers, I forgot that Tool++ put the .map in my maps folder for me -.-

BUT, to answer your questions in case I make another mistake.

"It doesn't matter. Have you tried playing the map ingame? I get this error every time I attempt to compile a cache file, and my map's still play through fine."

Since I didn't see the map file created, I didn't think to look for it in-game >..>

"Are you using Vista? Did you check to see if you can access it in-game?

"Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'" always occurs - unless you use Notepad to create an empty map file called toolbeta.map in the main Halo Custom Edition directory. It's nothing to worry about."

No, Vista Sucks. I heard that Error is nothing, but I wanted to make sure >.>

"dont use tool++, use the command prompt and normal tool

I must use Tool++, because normal tool won't access my C Drive correctly, and neither will Command prompt, it takes me straight to Documents and settings -.-'

Thank you all for helping me, even though I only have 2 posts -.-'

To use command prompt for making Halo CE maps, you need to copy and paste it in the Halo CE directory. Use this tutorial to get it to work: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=2473

Learn to use command prompt, it works fine.
Tool ALWAYS put it in the map folder. Where else would it go?
Tool will always say couldn't read toolbeta.map.
Open Command Prompt
Enter:
cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\
Now your at your Halo Custom Edition Folder in command prompt.
Type in:
tool.exe

On another note: Vista is not the problem. EVER!

Tool will always say couldn't read toolbeta.map. [Yeah I get it >.>]
Open Command Prompt [Done]
Enter:
cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\ [CAN'T. Command prompt won't let me type out a full directory because it types out C"\Documents and settings\Owner> D:]
Now your at your Halo Custom Edition Folder in command prompt.
Type in:
tool.exe

On another note: Vista is not the problem. EVER!

It should say that.
And it's if Documents and Setting, that means you are using Windows XP.
Right when you start command prompt it will say something like : C:\Documents and Setting (or Users, if it's Vista)\Username>
After the >, type in the command. Such as:
cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition
