Some of you might be wondering why I have not updated maps to the site for a while. My last map that I updloaded here was Dangerforest2, and that was in May.
The reason is that I've encountered a weird glitch on Windows Vista. Once I use tool to compile a scenario file, it works like usual. Nothing strange happens during the compilation.
Now here's the strange bit: I load Halo CE. The map I have just created works just fine. But.....when I check my Halo Custom Edition\maps directory.....THE FILE ISN'T THERE!
Its like it has become invisible or something. Puzzled, I start Halo CE again, only to find the map still listed and playable. I repeat the above several times.
I try making a quick AI map, then compile it. Same thing happens. It dosen't show up on the maps directory.
This makes it impossible for me to upload maps to the site, since I can't find the .map file.
One more thing: When I download maps from this site, I extract them to that directory. They don't disappear. They work normally.
A similar thing has happened to me in another game.
How is this actually possible? Does it have something to do with my new Windows Vista that I'm currently using?

The UAC crap (User Acount Control) it makes your admin not really an admin limiting him to not write within the program files. If you are to keep this setting on, you have to set CMD to run as a administrator for things done to be real (well.. any HEK tool needs this lol)

I use vista also, and when you compile a map it puts it into the "compatibility Files" folder so look for that on the screen

Also, check your file settings to "display hidden files". Windows may have hidden the file, and it can only be seen if that is activated.
If this is the case, the file is there, and that would explain why it is playable. It can't BE anywhere else. Thats where CE looks. If its not there, CE has nothing to do with it.
I don't run Vista. I run a version of Windows XP Professional known as Media Center Edition (and for having i-don't-know-how-many inputs, it won't just accept a signal and display it...)
But its possible that Vista deemed that it should be hidden when you moved it, based on the file type.

Wait...wait.....I'm getting loads of diffferent replies. FoxtrotZero, where can you change your settings?
Half-Jaw, which do you mean is Read-Only, the scenario or the map? And I've searched....it does not show up. If its hidden, I'm not sure how to unhide it. And where the heck is that compatibility files folder?

dang, i just got a new shipment of rotten fruit!
Try running a search for the map name. Hidden files should come up, or if its anywhere else.

Nope. I searched and double-searched. Only the scenario file appeared in results.

Vista is not the problem, it the users. Right click on you Halo Custom Edition Folder and go the the security tab. Then click edit. Then set normal Users to full control.
