In plane modeling when you shift+ drag an edge it makes a new face. It works like that fpr me in editable mesh, but in editable poly, it just drags THAT specific edge. It DOES NOT make a new edge. How can I make it so it does? DO I have t o program a shortcut key in customize UI? What do I do?

It should work for you in both mesh and polly and you should not have to customize anything . Thats odd.

Only a unsealed edge can be drawn out.

You need to select the edges. Click the edge box instead of poly. then on the top left of the perspective window right-click and show edges. Then when you select an edge you can see it.
