In the next day or so, I will be uploading a new AI Map Variant named NoWayOut. See the attached link for recent screenshots.

http://cid-2ca9be76cadd6849.spaces.live.com/photos/cns!2CA9BE76CADD6849!143/

This map is an Adolphatobia varient with an AI battle taking place between a vastly outnumbered squad of 15 Marines, flanked by a squad of Hunters from one direction, Elites with plasma rifles attacking from the front, and Blue Grunts with rockets attacking from the rear. A few Grunts are on the mountains, and shooting down on the Marines. There are several Elites with needlers grouped with each squad, and will drive ghosts and wraiths into battle against the Marines and their Warthogs.

At the other corner of the map, there is an airbase with planes and vehicles, that is being continuously attacked by a half dozen banshees. Two marine pilots will try to defend the base from attack.

I will post the full readme file here sometime tomorrow.

It's not that bad, though there are some bugs with the vehicles I see. The BSP looks a bit dodgy, though the AI's sound well placed out.

Dude...if you read his post fully...

He's modding a map. Not making one.

Original was Adolifatobia

What's with the bad language?

You bad bad person.

Look, we're basically screwing up this guys forum. He took the effort to make it, and it's gonna get locked. So just get back on topic.

@Mysterion, could've modded a better map, but we all have to start somewhere, don't we? Will this be a MP map or a SP map?

Chill, its a map, nothing more...not worth blowing a circuit over. If you can make a better AI map, please do, because I would love to play it!

Anyway, hope to release it this week, but don't know when Dennis will have it available.

Exactly by start off small I recommend for him to read a tutorial like the one that came with HEK, and model a map like that. btw dont release this map for I doubt that anyone would like it (no offence)

About:
This map is an Adolphatobia varient with an AI battle taking place between a vastly outnumbered squad of 15 Marines ambushed by the Covenant, with No Way Out...sort of a "Blackhawk Down" situation for these poor fellas with their wrecked, burning pelicans. The Marines are flanked by a squad of Hunters from one direction, Elites with plasma rifles attacking from the front, and Blue Grunts with rockets attacking from the rear and shooting from the hills above. There are several Elites with needlers embedded with each squad who will drive Ghosts and Wraiths into battle against the Marines who will also climb into their own chaingun warthogs. A Covenant Cruiser hovers high above the bloody battlefield, having just dropped off all the Covenant warriors. Unfortunately as the Cov are killed, reserves are teleported down to continue their onslaught. For sniping, there are a couple of rifles on the central high mountain ridge facing the battlefield, as well as on the mountain ridge facing the airbase.

Red and Blue Bases are identical in layout, Marines are set as red team allies, and Covenant are set as blue team allies. You can start the game as red and race to rescue the marines with a Pelican, chain gun or rocket Warthog, or in a nuclear armed Longsword, or just give them aircover with jets. Be sure to head first into your team's base to load up with weapons before embarking on your mission. You might consider using devmode "cheat_bottomless_clip 1" and even "cheat_deathless_player 1", otherwise you will be killed very quickly, especially by the 15 Grunts firing all those rockets...it can be quite intense! Land a pelican near a squad of marines, and they'll climb in for the rescue. To get marines to exit the Pelican, use the console command "ai_exit_vehicle marine1" for battle marines or use marine2 for the marines at the airbase described below.

At the other corner of the map is an airbase with runway, several buildings, planes, and vehicles including warthogs, scorpions, Longsword, (2) coldsnap Jets, (2) Kestrels, (2) extinction jets w/pilots, weapons, etc. Turrets w/gunners are located on each building roof. There are continuous strafing and bombing runs being conducted against the base by a half dozen banshees from the central mountain ridge. The marines do an fairly good job of defending the base, but do need your help. The two pilots will try to climb in their fighters for a dogfight, but can get overwhelmed, so fly along with them.

Before the battles began, both the marines and covenant were preparing to conduct above ground nuclear tests involving two different arrangements of (10) neutron antipersonnel mines. Each team's testing range is marked by an obelisc with flashing red lights, located a safe distance away their bases. Drop a C4 charge and get the heck out of Dodge, or just fire a sniper rifle from the roof of your base or from a safe hillside to set'em off. Assuming each mine is around a kiloton in size, the ten kiloton detonation results in one massive fireball! Some Green Grunts are spying on the airbase and the nuke test, and are also hiding out in the central valley of Adolifatobia with a captured pelican, so take them out.

Recommendations:
Warning - This map is designed for newer, higher spec computers, and may not work at all on most low spec machines or laptops due to the sheer number of AI and AI driven vehicles, nukes, etc. I will consider creating a lower spec version in the near future. I Don't believe there is another map available with this many AI battling all at one time, so it can be quite fun. With a dual-core processor, 256 Mb graphics card, and one Gig of RAM, I have had to adjust my video settings for 800x600 (max) to get everything to work smoothly. You might tweak other video settings for better results. Having two Gig of ram or more should also result in somewhat better performance.

This is primarily a multiplayer map designed for solo play, however, you can try to play LAN or Internet with other players joining the battle as red team for a joint effort to help Marines battle the Covenant or as blue team to help the Cov attack them. Always remember, No AI characters will sync in HALO CE multiplayer.

Unzip the folder to your desktop, then move or copy the Nowayout map to your Halo Custom Edition\maps directory.

Map should play as CTF, slayer, and team slayer. In CTF, to get all the vehicles, equipment and weapons designed for the map, be sure you set weapon set for NORMAL, starting equipment for CUSTOM, vehicle set to DEFAULT. I typically set YES for flag at home to score, YES for force flag reset, and time limit to NONE.

Really? You were trying to talk an entire team that was way higher then what you will ever be. Learn to apply what you say.

Josh, this may shock you. But you are WAY below me to say the least. No one likes you, like at all. I mean at all.

You must have your eyes taken out or something... Use glasses. So far I see you are the one more hated. Also, stop acting like a kid just because I was right with my statement.

gtfo josh and kid, go and play dolls and fight over PM´s not on this guy´s thread.

i like the back story thing, looks like you put effort into it, you should take a look on tuts on how to improve AI (just so AI drivers dont go retarded )

I am pretty busy with engineering work and family needs, and have tried to squeeze in an hour or two late at night fiddling around with this map, so its been a fairly long process. I am probably old enough to be the father of most of you (my kids are 12 and 15). I discovered that it is a really great way to relieve the daily stress, kind of like my dad's interest in picture puzzles.

This is only my second map for release, and maybe the fourth map I have messed with. I created the Mod while learning how to use HEKPlus, Sapien, Guerilla, and Tool, but put it aside when my son talked me into working on Extinction_AI. Wanted to create a map with dogfighting plus as large an AI battle as possible. Its pretty cool swooping down in your fighter to provide air cover and take out the Cov as they move in on the Marines.

The airbase was added subsequent to the work on the battlefield, but it had no AI pilots. I thought how cool it would be to have Banshees conducting air raids on these poor marines, so I added them in, and then the marine pilots to fend them off. It has been a whole lot of fun building, and just want to share it with everyone rather than just have my son and I play it. If I have more time in the future, I might learn to build a map from scratch, but with so many great maps already generated,

The AI drivers will load up the hogs and try and drive over, and shoot up the cov. They will occasionally steal a ghost and blast them with it. I should add that the Nukes are pretty cool, and have created a varient with a field of (50) of them...my Lord, it looks like a scene from "Trinity and Beyond"! The fighter pilots will sporadically get into the fighters and fly up to the ridge firing their guns and missles. I love flying by their planes and hearing the pilots trash talking. Occasionally both pilots will fly in formation to attack the banshees leaving the ridge.

Wow children, calm down. Don't make Daddy Dennis to bring out the pasaphire. Take your argument elsewhere.

On the mod, I agree with CLS. You should mod another map or make your own.

id love to, but unfortunately most of my maps are about 60% done, none of them have been completed (bit foolish of me, but at least im training myself) all i got is a map beta...

the idea of the map is to drive people insane and to help them learn to better coordinate their movements, plus throwing in the concept of escape grenades; among other things. It's old so the model isn't quite up to standards, but it is fun all the same

It wasn't exactly well made, but it's the only decent map I have on the site, the rest are box maps which I foolishly released. Suprisingly, http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=3797 has quite a lot of downloads, for a such a badly made map.

I haven't released one for quite a while, mainly cause I'm just editing things, not modelling.

My son and I had a great time playing "Skydive Heaven" one night. It was fun to play, and probably explains the large number of downloads. The Quarry map we have not yet downloaded, but will be sure to in the future. IG WYS Beta looks really wild and complex, with a lot of effort put into it, so I hopefully can download this too. I respect constructive comments from those who are creative mappers and modders such as Dhark, Mythril (7 files), CLS Grunt (mid-ship looks pretty good). Nexus Halo, are you the one who created “Practicum”, or is this by a different Nexus?

It is a really a very lame excuse not to upload maps or tags because “it takes too long”, since it really doesn’t. If anyone else making comments here has a map to share, please do take the time to upload and/or post pictures so as to allow all of us all the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of your labor, and objectively critique your work.

As I have learned in life, if you want to “Talk the Talk, you should Walk the Walk” otherwise you will never receive the respect from those who do…

Personally experiencing the effort it takes just to mod a map, I would never negatively (creatively yes) comment on anyone else’s project, and especially one that has not yet been downloaded and played. I deal with folks all the time, who find it so very easy to badmouth someone else’s creative design, but can’t draw a line for themselves.

Now that IS a very good excuse...zip it up on a memory stick, find a better connection a possibly the public library, and upload it to halomaps.org. You never know, it could be wildly popular.

One of the most important things a map maker can learn is modeling. If you can't model, then your maps will not be so good. If you need help learning modeling http://www.tutorialized.com always helps.

i just passed this up randomly but this topic kinda got a wee bit off track what your doing (map modeler/editor) is a big improvement there are no triangles *thank god* and you added a covie ship floating *awesome!* but could try to add undergroung tunnels water big covie and poas you can control and some caves with drawings and a BIG cave with three turns two lead to a dead end with mines (if possible) and one leads to a room with a teleporter to a sky box so you can snipe everyone but the teleporter is hidden and in the room (not skybox) has all this computers and forerunner technology. add what i call "Story" to the map. like boxes trees a ship where a bunch of longswords and pelis flyout of.

THE ABOVE /\ /\ IS A RECOMENDATION THAT SHOULD PROBABLY BE DONE just to make a good map

Maybe in the future I will design a map from scratch. Tired of modding this map though, so I will upload it as is. I would love to do a mod of Coldsnap, but it is so large that it won't successfully build the cache file. Anyone know how it was compiled in the first place? If you open it up with HEK plus, then try to recompile it without touching a thing, it says it is too big.

I found a copy of Tool** online somewhere, but it was located in a "Cached" site on the web. I will try it out soon with Coldsnap.

Holding off on publishing this map until I can get the Marines from the air base to migrate to the Marines in battle when you drop them off. They just kind of stand there. Anyone know how to get them to properly join another encounter?

Thats the point, but I toughened up the marines a bit so they don't die so easily, and they have fun running all over the Covenant with their hogs...endless AI killin fun with close air support, and "just tired of the cov" nuke strikes. By the way, there are a couple of miniguns laying around for laying waste!

Out of curiosity, is the cruiser the correct scale (about 1 mile long) or is it smaller, because it looks quite small in the pics.

But the mod looks good, and AI maps are simply supreme (if made correctly). My download awaits.

Just used the cov cruiser scenery tag downloaded from this site. It is at 300 units above the surface.

Here is the map:
http://cid-2ca9be76cadd6849.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/HALO%20Maps/nowayout.zip?#comments

I will soon create and upload a low-spec version of this map so that lower-end machines can more easily play.
