What's the best 3ds Max version to buy? I'm starting to get back into creating stuff for halo and I need to know which Version I should buy.

Most. I use 3ds max for my general purpose CG. But other stuff like UVing and stuff I use Modo, Zbrush, and some other tools.

id have to say 3ds max 8, blitzkrieg the main exporter for haloce purposes does not work for max 9 and even less (if that were possible) for 2009, the alternative would be to use bluestreak, however that program seems to be flawed, having biti, opsy and i having SERIOUS exporting issues, in that we couldnt get a simple cube to export correctly until after several exports (12 to be precise)

lol, opsy kept asking me to export stuff since 3d's max 9 was really retarded and cant export anything without an open edge, most people use 3d's max 8, 9, 2008, and 2009.
i think you should get 3d's max 8, chances of getting open edge's are less

what he said, lol

well, i used maya 2009 (maybe 2008?), and the differences between that and max 2009 cannot be too much because autodesk owns maya now. i would say for general use 2009 is the best since its the newest, but for halo get max 8. i use max 8
the plugins and stuff for putting things in halo only work in max versions 3 through 8. 8 is the newest you can get and still have full blitzkreig (halo exporter) functionality

Seven or Eight. I have both because I can =)

Eight is the best though.

I mainly use 8 but sometimes use 9 because the Dreamscape plugin doesn't work for Max 8.
