Send me out...with a bang.

If I want to add detail to a forerunner structure, more specifically the side or a wall, how do I properly go about that? I keep noticing people saying not to inset and extrude/bevel, but that's the only detail I really know. Any and all help is appreciated.

Use cut.

And what's bad about inset?

Do you mind elaborating on what you mean by "use cut"?
I don't know what's wrong with it I've just noticed that some members say not to inset and extrude.

I've never had any problems with insetting or extruding. I don't know how to use cut though. I'm not sure what you mean by "detail", but if you want to mak it with some more geometry, select the face and tesselate (make sure it's set to 0). Or use extrude\bevel\inset\cut\some combination of those.

Yeah, I didn't explain in much detail did I?

XD

Okay, convert said model to Editable Poly.

Go polygon selection mode (I think...)

Go down and there should be a button labelled cut.

Click it, and you can draw detail onto your model...

Hard to explain really...you create new edges without the need of verticies?

Try it. if it's still not clear enough, I'll show you an sc.

=)

I gotcha. Simple enough.
