hi there i am having Major Probs with my Copy of Halo CE and my PC. i am getting really angry and i am getting sick of it, so..... here is whats up:
i an getting the Same Old Gathering Exsption Error and i just got some new files from a friend and i put them in the Halo Directory and in the MAPs in the Halo Directory. and it still does not work. i now have a Legal copy of Halo PC and a real copy Product key. and it still does not. i am currently using a computer with a Intel Pentium 4 prosseser and a Nvidea Geforce 7300 Videocard and also 3 GB of RAM. i am also Running on a Windows XP home Edition. But here is what i am wondering i used to be running on a Windows XP Pro and it worked fine with user created maps, but now it does not. could it be that Most User Created Maps Like Extinsion and the CMT Version - Halo PC Campian (AKA the Halo Custom Edition Campian) be the Prob in this Situation. Do most Users who creat there Maps are they using Windows XP Pro and that is why it crashs every time i try to Play User created maps?

PS: The Maps that come with the Installation work fine with My computer.

It's definitely not because people use professional, that's just silly. But it might be because for one, do not create a custom game in multiplayer when you're playing the CMT campaign, you type in the code with the tilde key. I forget how the code goes but I'm sure someone below will respond with it. Also, Extinction, although unlikely, might be too laggy for you to play. I know when I even start the game I get 1 frame per second.

Other Programs Interfering:
Some programs can cause Halo to crash if you run them at the same time. Some versions of Xfire and certain video cards are known to cause Halo CE to crash and generate a "Gathering Exception" error. Before starting Halo CE turn off all other programs; Turn off your MP3 player, Turn off Xfire, Turn off your Instant messenger (AIM, AOL, MSN, Yahoo). Turn off all programs not absolutely needed to run the operating system.

For that command, it's map_name <map>. For CMT maps, you can use:

a10 - Pillar of Autumn
a30 - Halo
a50 - Truth and Reconciliation
b30 - Silent Cartographer
b40 - Assault on the Control Room
c10 - 343 Guilty Spark
c20 - The Library
c40 - Two Betrayals
d20 - Keyes
d40 - The Maw

or u can use a custom UI that supports campaign :P

yes i am using a UI file to get the Campian maps to work. They are the Orange UI and the D40 Custom UI, and i am trying to Play Extintion to on Mutiplayer but.... that does not work ether so. but like i said before Nvidea Geforce 7300 Videocard and it says that Halo CE does not support this Video card, but for some reason it used to work fine when i played it on Windows Xp Pro, but that was before i got that darn Virus. Stupid Viruses i am sick of them SOOOO much why do people make them, is it that the people who make them like to see other people suffer, i don't know but anyways. i am not sure why these darn maps are not working i would really like to get them working so that i can play the Campian maps and Extintion again (if that ever happens)

I can tell you it's not because youre running home edition. My computer is windows xp home and it runs halo fine.

well it seams that there have been alot of posts, but.... none of them have answered my question so here it is again: how do fix the gathering exseption Error. most of teh time during the Campain it happens about 2-5 minites in to the level it self and then the Error apears.
how do i fix this problem?? can anybody answer the Question and help me out here??

hey, i forgot to say something about my computer. i went and recently Reinstalled my Operateing System with a fresh Copy of WinXP Home Edition, not because a Virus because i want to get Halo CE working.

all I can say is reinstall Halo or stop doing stuff that Bungie didn't intend you to do.

I just reallized something i forgot to mention, i am also using Zone Alarm, if that maters.
i am also using 2 Hard drives i am not sure if that maters ether. i have also tryed to Extract All the CMT Campain Maps in to the Maps folders and i have try using both the Orange Custom UI file and the d40 Custom UI file to Access the Campain Maps. and that both have Failed me. hope this helps

Maybe reinstall halo? If you used a cracked .exe, you'll have to reinstall with the disk to get rid of it, and maybe some bad files?
And make sure you have you're latest video card driver, or maybe experiment with some older ones.

Did you extract the whole zip folder? I had a friend who got exceptions for every map, and it was because he extracted the whole .zip into the maps folder. Make sure there are no realdes, etc in the maps folder. All that can be in there is either map files or folders.

yes i did Extract all the .map files, but just the .maps files. also i have resently looked a the videocard captibility List and i Noted that my videocard is not suppored by Halo Custom edition, but for some strange reason when i used to have Windows XP Pro it worked fine with the same Videocard i currently have. what i am trying to say is that when i had WinXP Pro i had the same exact videocard i have now (is that strange or what). by the way i am going to go and get WinXP Pro Tonight so i will se if that will fix that Problem that has been srewing me up.

It's fine. And your 7 series card should work fine, it's just newer, so it isn't under the supported list.
I don't think changing OS should affect though, but I guess you can try. I'd backup my maps and reinstall first, just to see if that works. Even though you have a legal copy, the cracked exe could be the problem, try reinstalling for the original exe.

i am not using any ilegal hacks or cracks (at least not anymore). also i DO think the operating System could be the Problem. also i fore got to mention something importent, most of the time when i get the "Gathering Exseption Error" it is when i am on the First level of the Campain "CMT Pillar of Autumn" and right when Captain Kees starts Telling the Cryo Bay team to send The Master Cheif to the Bridge, That is when the Gathering Exseption Error Most of the time Appers or Happens

HEY EVERYONE GOT IT WORKING, YAHOOOOO (I AM SOOOO THRILLED).
so my Idea work for some Reason I Installed Widows XP Pro and my Halo CE Game works Fine now so.... Yaaaaa. by the way to the User "someone not important" you may be right for some people (like you) but not all people a as Lucky as you are for getting Halo CE to work on WinXP Home Edition, so be greatful.

also for all those users are planning to Upgrade from Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000, i suggest that you use Windows XP Pro so that your Copy of Halo Custom Edition Will work, that is is you are planning to play Halo CE on a Windows XP baced Platform, just a Suggestion that's all.

Never mind it still not work (Man i am getting sick of this so badly, its starting to anger me). Does anybody know of a patch that can fix the Campian levels and or the Custon UI file so that i can play the Campian maps? and is there a patch other then the Halo Custom Edition Hotfix 1.07?? And what in the world is Developer mode??
