Smaller cramped passageways forcing players to be in closer quarters. Vents, etc. No open fields, usually indoors, maybe back alleys of a city or something. Think office building-ish.

Quote: --- Original message by: ILLEGALLcheatsMAN What's CQC? CQC Close Quarters Combat (hand to hand) There is an acronym finer in dictionary.com. Just type in the letters in all caps no spaces, then it'll give you a link to the acronym finder results. How I found out about QFT ,idgi, and OP. Quote: --- Original message by: C y b o r G Close Quarters Combat beat me to it...just when I was posting. And I like maps with long hallways, or outside building areas, inside dark areas with a horror theme, or a generally small area with no heavies. Also Cod4's shipment is great with 6-10 people (small green rectangles are shipment crates) I like CQC with shotguns or mini guns/ machine guns, a decent amount of people, and a tiny bit of cover, or long hallways to camp. And CoD4 has some good single play CQC, as does Halo with the flood, for example, parts or the library(getting trapped in a corner or in a room where the monitor has to open a door), or 343 guilty spark. I didn't know that .bmp files would have such superior quality over .jpg files uploaded to imageshack... Edited by madkiller92 on Jun 5, 2008 at 09:55 PM

If you've ever played Rainbow Six Vegas 2, then you get that CQB feel in some areas of the game. Thats the only game I found a real reason for shotgun use, other times its just for fun of using a shotgun.

And you asked for suggestions of them, right OP? Well I think that I good one would be something medium sized, with 2-3 floors, mabey a few lifts/stairs/elevators, and have the floors more enclosed in places. Midship has pretty OK enclosed areas expect for wide areas you can jump out of. Maybe elongation, with closed ramps, and crate structures blocking wide escape areas is a better example. and here is a image I found Appears to be an open room with hallways, mabey a 2nd floor maybe not. But that seems to be a good example. Just try not to make a tiny box map. And H2 lockout is a GREAT example About 3 floors, hallways, and you can't get out of those tiny halls or you fall out the maps. And you could use stairs or a ramp instead of a lift if the lift is giving trouble. Just come up with a creative, and fun idea. Maybe something new, that HCE hasn't ever seen. But I'm pretty bad at creativity.. Edited by madkiller92 on Jun 5, 2008 at 10:08 PM

EDIT: resize or remove that lockout picture. nobody is going to want to scroll back and forth to read all this crap...... actually my computer is running in safemode due to some sort of catastrophic failure somewhere, so im limited to a resolution of 1024x768 on a 17" widescreen as opposed to my usual 900 something x 1120 or something like that. im not trying to show off either, so stuff it ya cry babies. ANYWAY on to the good stuff: good CQC map: no rocket launchers please, and if you must add one, give it a long respawn time. active camo and overshields should be carefully placed, if you place them at all. shotguns: please dont stock the whole team with shotguns at their base... make them go out to get them camping: on a CQC map, especially one with a lot of people, people will camp. its a strategy. make sure any camping area is accessible by 2 directions, or put a rocket launcher opposite that spot so people can clear the person out sniper rifles: bungie puts sniper rifles in almost every map, no matter how close quarters it is. prisoner is an example. i think we have all seen aimbots, and we have all seen skill like ganon's, so think carefully about sniper rifle spawns rocket launchers: its important to remember that this weapon has a very decent amount of splash damage. for a gametype such as king of the hill, placing a hill in a room with a 2nd floor should be thought about. in KotH, people are usually pressured by other players in the hill. they will quickly try to go to the hill and dominate it, picking up any weapon they can use on the way. this includes, shotguns, flame throwers, rocket launchers, grenades, even assault rifles. make sure to place these objects accordingly to spawn points to avoid whoring of weapons grenades: frags serve just as much purpose as plasma grenades. frags can be bounced off walls, and tend to be used alot in general. plasmas are the throw and stick weapon. they are much better against vehicles, which CAN appear on close quarters maps (ghosts, warthogs, turrets). back to frags, they can be used like the rocket launcher for clearing out rooms. splash from a grenade will drop a players shields and half thier health, and a 2nd one will kill them. placing 4 of them in a spot where a person can stand and bounce them off a wall into a crowded area (again i reference the KotH area, or a ctf flag spawn). spawn time is also critical. do not stock the whole team with grenades as soon as the game starts. they have their starting grenades, thats enough until they find more. back to plasmas now, a player, in general, should not start with plasma grenades on slayer. on capture the flag, this is acceptable. i call to reference, blood gulch. the plasma grenades are placed in an area that leave you susceptible to sniper or even pistol fire. to get them you are taking a risk (this same principal applies to the oddball). again think about spawn times the flamethrower (aka the jew gun :P): this weapon is the master whore weapon. shotguns and flamethrowers are not as similar as you may think. shotguns are direct fire spread shots. they move fast, and theres really no getting out of the way. you can get right up close to someone and shotgun them. flame throwers are a spray fire weapon. slow moving flame means that it COULD be avoided, but the sheer amount that is sprayed begs to differ, as do the people who use it.the flame causes after burn, meaning that after being hit with fire, it continues to burn and sap shields. while this may not be deadly, it stops the shields from recharging, causing people to duck in cover, or be sitting ducks to attacks with assault rifles, shotguns, etc... the up-close-and-personal value of the flamethrower is throughly defeated by the shotgun. face to face, a shotgun will kill in one hit, the flame thrower will kill quickly, but not as fast as the shotgun. the flames also bounce off walls, and continuously burn, cutting off an escape route for yourself if an angry team mate wants to avenge his friend's death. keeping this in mind, think carefully about the flow of the map.
if this isnt enough info for you, i refer you to the back of my powdered hand Edited by Donut on Jun 5, 2008 at 10:24 PM

CQC, to me, is characterized by small maps with lots of cover. The Pit, Ascension, Warlock, and Tensity are what I think of when I thin of CQC maps.

ascension and the pit not so much. the pit is actually primarily BRs and snipers, with your occasional sword camper or shotgun guy ascension is snipers and brs in my experience never killed anyone with a shotgun on that map
