Here's a shot of my ferns I'm working on; As you can see they're extremely dark on the underside, is there a way I can tell the shader not to cast/receive shadows? Or even a way to change the opacity so that light goes through them? I trimmed down the Alpha and I'm still getting a black outline on the plants, if you look at the far ferns you can see it becomes more apparent the further from the bush you are. Is this an Alpha issue or something else? Edited by YakZSmelk on Jun 5, 2008 at 02:48 PM

check the readme. i beleve there is a symbol that makes a shader cast no shadow. but that's not what youwant. i believe you can change the truecolor file in your tags/scenario/mapname folder so it is lighter, but you'd have to relight after that. Umm did you make them 2-sided? and did you instance them? looks like you did just wondering.
show your bitmap and alpha and that may help. But i'd check out the symbol meanings in the readme. remember under a fern it's gonna be dark because the upper leafs will block sunlight.
OH like i mentioned in the other post change the bitmap settings and recompile the bitmap. Edited by johnnyblaz20 on Jun 5, 2008 at 10:29 PM

Eww, why do those graphics look so...ugly? I thought H2V was "better" than the XBox version, not worse. :\
No offense YakZSmelk, I'm looking at the Hog and...woah.

No offense YakZSmelk, I'm looking at the Hog and...woah. HAHAHA When I was showing my friends some of the stuff I was working on in H2V they all said the same thing. It's hard to regress, I'm not running that at the highest resolution (I think it's one under the best), but you have to remember Halo 1 and Halo 2 still had the same limitations. Whether or not bumps are implemented properly can gravely affect the graphics of a piece. About the original post, I went back and rendered the ferns as a two-sided material (instead of creating a backface in Max) and it's still fairly dark(although still lighter). I'll continue to toy with the shader and post if I get a solid answer. But like all my posts I have a secondary question; is there a way to paint photons in Sapien in Halo 2? (add light to the dark spots) I remember watching a video about a year ago where the creator was using a brush to lighten dark areas in Halo 1, has this tool made it's way into H2V?
