Sorry for the crazy number of threads (still short of spamming though), but the weekend is coming up and I won't have wi-fi access then, just to be free to play with halo maps.

Are there any major differences between gmax and 3ds max that prevent me from, say, importing base models made in gmax into gmax (using a 3dsmax tutorial as I can't find one for gmax)?

I'm pretty sure that I can't do tunnels in gmax at least...

Thanks.

3ds max expenisve, gmax is free.

3ds max 5-7 has the best exporter blitzkreig, gmax has exporters but they are not as good.

gmax lacks alot of modeling tools that 3ds max has. Also gmax can't import .max files which there are alot of .max files on halomaps so you got to ask someone to convernt them for you. gmax can import .3ds files and can import with a script .obj files.

Gmax has a slightly different user interface, the material editor is better in 3ds max.

there are alot but those are some main ones.

I'd rather go without than take what you'd bring.

Actually, when GMAX came out, the only main difference was the inability to use rendering stuffs.

It has been out for awhile, so 3DSMax has many more features now, but there is a way to render in GMAX with YafRay... go to yayap.com and you can find a tutorial on how to do so.
