Ok this is a free program that is excellent for creating displacement maps, normal maps.

The program allows you to get an idea about what the bump map will look like in game.

awesome, now question.

does it let you save the bump, or texture from the program? or is it just a viewer?

The program allows you save all of the bitmaps created in the program.

i think the exe should be uploaded to halomaps as it can be very helpful. I wish i new of this program before i decided to quit map making.

Convert does not matter. I convert files all the time.

Jpeg is extremely lossy, terrible for textures, therefore I have started a one-person boycott of it.

Yes the JPEG format by design is a lossy compression format where some visual quality is lost in the process. Its purpose is for quality photographic presentation at low file size and not for applications where specific bit depth regardless of file size is required. There is no reason to boycott the format as long as you apply it for the correct application. The correct application for JPEG is for photographic visual display on a website or web forum.
