lighting is everything right? no? then wtf is?!?!

well im a fan of portal and getting the orange box soon but ive seen the gravity gun, netroid's blastergun, and even odst playersbut why not a portal gun? it would comeinhandy right? ifyou make a map having the gun post it letothers play it

search before you post! there is already a portal application/maps for halo CE.

i havent foudn a single HALO CE MAP with the portal gun

He's right, I can't find patrick's thread, and I don't think he uploaded it to halomaps since it was an early beta.

The base game engine does not support the functionality of the portal concept. So far someone has created a third party memory hack addin to manage some of the functions. However I believe it still has problems with multiplayer play. I know it is novel concept but If you like portal then play portal.

The person that made the thing was Patrick something

He did an amazing job but I never got the thing to work all the time

There were a lot of bugs to it and the multiplayer didn't really do well

Dennis has a point, if you want Portal, play Portal. That goes for a lot of the things.

I dissagree with you guys. i think games should be made for halo ce or any other game engine. Like the metroid map team. Do you think no one should play that or they should play metroid. Of coarse not. They play it because halo is one of our favorite games and who doesn't like to mod their favorite game to play like another game they like.

Kiwi doesn't. Why shouldn't original content be made instead? Kiwi can understand something that isn't a FPS, because at the very least it would be interesting to see.

That's not 'original.' It says 'idea from Starcraft,' though in my opinion bounds are better in Starcraft, I used to be average when I still played SC, but now all the maps are crap.

I see nothing wrong with making levels inspired by other games. For example:

Both were inspired by UT and offered a interesting game play, however, in my opinion a total conversion of Halo CE into an existing game is just not practical and in Halo CE there has not yet been a single total conversion that has amounted to anything. Even the H2 conversions were not total they were just enhancing the Halo 1 game with Halo 2 features from the existing Halo 2 tag set. Too many of these "conversions" overreach and try to make the game do things that it was not designed to and are totally unsatisfying. I appreciate the dedication that it takes to make them, especially in Halo CE, but from this user's perspective I play Halo to get a Halo experience, I play HL2 to get a HL2 experience, Team Fortress 2 to get a TF2 experience and I play Portal to get a Portal experience. I do not play Portal thinking "gee: wouldn't it be nice if there was some Halo stuff here." But that is just me.

I would rather see people spend time thinking through the designs and consider the game play aspects of a level. Too many of the “modifications” such as new weapons and new vehicles are created without thinking how it effects the way the game is played. Allot of new things are made by people who can’t see the forest for the tree. They concentrate on one thing like a new gun and how cool that gun is because it shoots this way or that way but forget that the game requires balance to be fun.

All you want-to-be game designers have an opportunity to learn game design from making game levels in existing games however part of that learning, which many seem to overlook, is how to think about the overall experience and not just one facet of the game like a “super cool” weapon or a vehicle that totally disrupts or distorts the game experience.

i have portal but once you play it it gets boring playing by your self and i mean this because i have to use companion cube but kill it :,( but what im saying is MULTIPLAYER portal there is no multiplayer in the actual portal game which is boring. you get what im saying now?
