i got windows vista the when i right click on halo ce click open file location i scroll down to where it would say maps content controls etc.. furtheron down it says HEK tutorial i click the it brings me to a link this is what it says on the development environment tutorial
Creating a Development Environment

This section explains what the editing kit contains, how to install and update Halo PC for editing, and how to install the Halo PC End User Editing Kit as well as how to set up directory structures and prepare Halo for content creation and editing.

NOTE: Many of the screenshots in this tutorial show a working directory of C:\HaloPC. However, the examples that go along with this tutorial are set up to use the default install path of Halo CE C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition. It is highly recommended that you use this default install path for Halo CE when first getting started.

Halo Editing Kit Contents

"Blitzkrieg" - 3DS Max exporter

"Tool" - Halo file converter

"Guerilla" - Tag file editor

"Sapien" - Level populator

Data Files- Source art

Tags - Halo game files

Tutorial - HTML file & Level

Installing and Updating Halo for the PC

To use the Halo Editing Resource and the files included in the Halo Editing Kit you must be running Halo CE, the unsupported version of Halo PC.

Information about Halo CE, the Halo HEK and where to obtain Halo CE can be found at Gearbox Software Halo Page

Halo Editing Kit Installation

To install the Blitzkrieg Exporter Plug-in for 3ds Max do the following:

1) If you are running 3ds Max, close the program

2) Copy the file Blitzkrieg.dle from the Halo CE\Blitzkrieg directory.

3) Place the Blitzkrieg.dle file into the plugins directory under 3ds Studio Max (eg. c:\3dsmax5\plugins).

4) Start 3ds Max.

If the plug in was successfully installed and loaded then you should be able to go to File->Export and see the following export options under Save as type in the pull down menu (scroll down the list) "Blitzkrieg Animation Exporter" and "Blitzkrieg Model Exporter".

Additional Tools Installation

The Halo Editing Kit requires the installation of some additional tools that are NOT included in the editing kit installation package.

For installation of additional tools or commercial software, such as 3ds Max, follow the installation procedures and instructions included with those programs.

3ds Max 5.1 was used in the tutorial areas of this document. The Blitzkrieg exporter is available for use with 3ds Max 3.x, 4.x and 5.x.

Information on 3ds Max is available here: http://www.discreet.com/3dsmax/.

So a lack of knowledge of directories is still his problem.
...

Hey wiseasses, maybe instead of telling this guy what a "noob" (or in sinned's case, the end of an amputated limb) he is, Maybe you guys should help explain directories a little more...

Or better yet, this guy should get Windows For Dummies. Not that he is a dummy... I mean when that company publishes books like "C++ For DUMMIES", then...

Anyway, it might help this guy if he does not know directories...

edit: Not to make you look bad, but I knew how to use DOS when I was 4. I am 16 right now.

noob is no excuse. its not hard to put the dle into the 3ds max plugins folder. just drag and drop. why is that so hard

Come on guys, your not alowed to flame him, but you are able to tell him to learn how to use a computer, and then come back when he knows how. Mb he was poor until he just recently got on welfare, and hes just touched a computer for the first time in his life? not all of us get the chance to have any form of computer when we where young (although a large majority of the world did)

Don't worry new guy to computers, we were all noobs to the computer once. I learned how to use the computer when I was young, 'bout 4 I say.

maybe, but you did not make it clear.

What is unfortunate is that we cannot tell where 3ds max is installed on his computer... IF he even has it! (if he does, it will pretty much ruin the story kirby told, but the moral of it is that you are very ignorant and VERY stupid to simply "expect" that everyone will be able to perform every basic function on the computer).

edit: hey sinned, you pissed me off.

He decided to ASK so that he would not be such a noob. Maybe that did not occur to you.

Maybe it did not because...
perhaps you lack the mental capacity in that area to think that?

This may not be the area to discuss how to learn how to do stuff, but you simply make it worse. As a result of the antics of crap like you, the newbie stays a newbie and never excells to the point of "capable."

Since you are not even going to attempt to contribute, you deserve no right to say anything here.
And it is unfortunate, to say the least, that you DO have that right.

you know what? no. for someone to use a computer for school work, thats fine. you wanna take up graphics design (thats 3d modeling) and game modding? learn how to put a file in a folder. its such a simple thing to do. it IS ignorant to expect people to know how to do everything, but not knowing how to put a file in a folder? thats unacceptable

Did you install 3DS Max to your comp? Some possible places (if you do have it) is C:\program files\ whatever the stupid folder is called. The other is just C:/ whaterver the stupid folder is called.

FTFY. You know why? Because you come here for the simple reason to flame the hell out of someone simply trying to learn.

oh and btw...

One time I joined a coldsnap server... and almost everyone was 16.
The thing is, there is no law in the USA that states that a child under the age of 17 cannot play M-Rated games... they simply cannot buy them.

no you'll have to use gmax. its free. search for it on google. so step 3 wont apply to you. you will need to get either bluestreak or chimp jms exporter instead of blitzkrieg. search for them on halomaps.org.

Sweet jesus this topic went to hell.
Also, http://files.h2vista.net/software/3dsmax/ for 3ds max trials.
Download Max5 first, and when that runs out, grab the next version.

you cant delete topics only the moderator can. also i saw what you posted before you edited and h2vista is just the name of the website, those are just downloads for 3ds max trials. but i recommend you start with gmax and learn it before moving up to max.
