no, I used the sand bitmap from yoyorast island. there is a detail map on it, though

jea i see the detail map. i would recommend making it only use horizontal patterns as the pattern now just dont fit with sand although i see what like about it (kinda dune like) i believe ripples would suit better. As for the main texture it really lacks in a sandy appearance.u would be better unwrapping the ground and applying a nice finish to it then adding a more sand like detail . or better still using alphas to blend 2 different sand type details.ill post back here with a real nice sand detail or 2. ive never played h3 so i dont know if this looks anything like a h3 map but gj anyway.

The bump map I used on it looks like sand, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to use that as a detail map too. Of course I could just edit the bump and make it desaturize it.
EDIT: NEW DETAIL MAP ON THE SAND:

it looks like hes using the wave bumpmap as the detail map when it should be getting used as a bump, but I still dont think it would do that good anyways, he needs a bump to go with his texture, his sand shouldnt look like solid yellow water.

I talked to massacre yesterday and he said that he was working on a few sand bitmaps for this level

I don't know if they are the right ones but they might be.

So I have people working on my map when I don't know it? Awesome sauce.

Things I need:
A good sand texture.
A better cliff texture.

I looked through the photorealistic packs, and didn't find anything I liked.

Also, I'm running into trouble while UVWing.
I can't seem the texture to flow seemlessly through the whole thing, for the cliffs anyway. Any type of UVW I've tryed either stretches, or breaks up at the cliff edges.
DO NOT WANT UGLY CLIFFS

im surprised u havnt already learned to unwrap uvw Nugga (having been here so long).
thats the best way to texture any very large surface (especially if u want to use a custom fitting bump, and the only way u r gonna get 2 detail maps). there is a good unwrap tut here somewhere but i had reall trouble with it coz he forgets to tell u to click the selection tool in "edit". please pm me if u want some help with this.
ps the texture i sent u in pm was made as a reference in about 120 secs

That is a horrible bump map, sand does not gather like that at all.

have you ever been to an ancient alien ring world? how do you know it doesn't do that on other worlds?

man that 2nd one is just footprints. i lived beside ocean for ever. if u want a good sand then look in the H2 bitmaps on the h2 section of this site, there r good 1ns there or i can make u some. that hex thing is the shape made by convection and would never be found in a desert (maybe in a pot of boiling water though).

you'd be surprised how sand will gather when its untouched by man. the wind moves it around A LOT.

yes i know it does but the fact remains that it would never look like that. unless there was an amazing heat under the sand to give it that look. and the other is just scaley.
