What happens when you cross the look of Sandtrap with the design of Blood Gulch? Well, I got this:

I'll probably add a crashed longsword in the middle of the map. And throw in a bunch of rocks.

Nugga you know you like detail so put it in yourself... Needs more structures and stuff. Just More elaborate things like you did in the first couple of pics.

I'm gonna see if the crashed longsword and abundance of rocks looks nice, and if I like it, I might not add anymore large structures, mainly because I don't want it to get TOO cluttered and packed. I'm trying to keep the normal Bloodgulch gameplay, but with a small twist (the tunnel).

Personally, I like it. Provides cover, and obsticle for vehicles, and adds flavor to the map.
(the left wing is stuck in the ground, it just doesn't look like it because of the camera angle and lack of shadows.

Also, I added some more plateaus to the map to make it less empty. The longsword is removed now due to space issues, and...

I agree with selentic on this one. Drag the cliffs back a little bit, make them blend in with the top of the map. Also, add some more sand dunes around the map for a little cover from snipers, de-boxify the bases, and add some sand dunes up top.

doesn't look like bloodgulch to me.... reminds me of extinction, which is why i don't really like it.... and putting the longsword in kinda killed it in my opinion. fix up some of the textures, and it might be a better map...

Plateaus have been added all around the map so looking for cover won't be a problem. Boulders are plentiful too. Also, the bases are more detailed than the pictures can tell. And I will round off the tops of all cliff/plateau edges. Plus, I'm gonna see if someone can whip up a simple ground bitmap for me.

Well like in Sandtrap those things you have as bases are not bases. They little relics that are suppost to be linked up with that huge relic in the middle. You can put those around the map to fill it up. You can make your own base you try to model the structure on Sandtrap. Or maybe make the Valhala base and make it worn. Maybe you should combine all three. Make a downed pelican swords the side. Also make the sniper spots have more cover for incoming fire. One thing that would be cool is if you did what Halo Guru did which was edit the bitmaps on the vehicles to make it look like its been out there for a while.

Umm... What did that have to do with the topic?

Anyway, I think a LS might be too big as well, how about a crashed Pelican somewhere? Make the bitmaps appear like the Peli's been there a while.
And do the same thing with the vehicles, too, lol.

Please read this post and don't just look at the pics. New pics include a new sky, added plateaus all over the place, fixed up bases, and rounded off cliffs. Try to ignore the UV's on the plateaus, as i was just experimenting with the planear setting to see if it looked better (which it didn't).

This looks good. Nice, basic layout, almost looks displace mapped. If it is, you did a very nice job.

Also, I don't think Halo 3 stuff would be good, just use original or pure, good custom stuff.

No displace, just looks like it because I just extruded the terrain which was low poly to begin with.
Weapon set will be almost fully custom.

And thanks for telling me about the chamfer tool, Mass, because now I know how to make those plateaus a little rounder. Here's the result I got from chamfering the base edges:

Well until I learn how to fix UVs that aren't even broken in the first place, all you get are some crap renders that I took in Max5.

A detail mapless texture is bound to look ugly. Plus, it was a minutes worth of work.

What vehicles will we be seeing in this map?

If you make a Hornet, maybe one base could have a Banshee, and the other have a Hornet.

Not large or open enough for Hornets. You'll probably see some desert hogs and maybe some turrets.

Looks pretty good. I agree with the tunnel system and maybe keep it original and have default weapons and vehicles? It will make it look like it belongs in Halo. Maybe you can make a sky that looks like the Arch in the actual sandtrap map.
