best SMG melee I've seen. But it shoots to fast and the recoil is too great.

We are very aware of the bugs (textures and smoothing mainly) and are fixing them.

Wow, I need to get in touch with dEEp more often. Been busy with Yoyorast's ATV lately, haven't had time to post on forums, go on Xfire, or do much of anything.

Well just to let you guys know that I will be redoing the environment for this map and it's going to look golden. To give you a taste test of what and how it shall look is right here.





The poly count may seem too high but its not that high it just that all the polies are used effactivly and it seems like the ground is smoothed... it is not like again the polies are placed very well. Total faces of 1755, polies 877.5.

Here is something I made the other day that i thoughtI would like to show.

i was under the impression a mapping "team" didnt belong to only one person...i thought that it belonged to anybody who put into it's maps...geez, get over yourself. havent they told you before to stop calling it yours?

It's just the bases that are Valhalla-ish...Still be cool if you made it a bit like Valhalla and added a Covenant Dropship instead of a pelican...if you were ever going to.

I will take your suggestions, Dennis, to heart, because you give the best ones to be frank :P. As for a name? well thats under wraps, till we get a beta goin, and thanks to ganon, it'll probably be a public one :D, yeah you read right, one of the first betas will be public ones... hopefully. at any rate, I know il duce will pull through, he's remodeling the terrain, we're keeping the bases, and their placement MAY be changed, i still dont know what duce has up his sleeve, but i'm sure its somethin good.

In the alpha build, I encountered very bad FPS problems, i usually get 60 or 70 fps on maps, but on this one, it would dip from 70 to 8, when looking at things in the distance. after troubleshooting, i guess its the custom ripple map i made, in combination with too many lensflares from the lights. so im gonna tone that down on the bases, and work something out as far as FPS friendly, yet visually stunning lighting is concerned. portaling the level helped, quite a bit, but not enough for me to be satisfied, because i know not all people in this community have SLI, dual core processors, and 2 gigs of ram....

EDIT: i think i should post a couple teaser pics b4 i go to bed, so here you go

just so you know, those vehicles will most likely not be in there, i just havem for testing playerclip, bsp errors, and stuff like that, hope you like the screens

we are going to have an h3 hud.
i figured out what was wrong with the meters for it (damn alpha blending )
iv been working on some other models too. no details yet as i would like to stay secretive in my department at least.
im doing fp anims for all of my guns, and 3p anims for everything cuz im sick of every custom weapon using the assault rifle reload. well thats all from me for the moment.

hey dano think i ripped this?

if you do, BITE ME!! my friends will tell you iv spent the last few days on this. yes it will be in our maps, no its not detachable like in halo 3. its just cool looking.
im only showing one pic but the pic kinda makes it look odd... dont worry, the model looks just fine. a total of 3332 polygons. but if you think about it, thats a hellza lot of detail there.

ok iv seen some criticism here, im ok with that, can we drop it about dano, and can we not fight over stupid crap. next off topic post will get... er well i dont know since i have no power over that but please dont get this topic locked! iv got more stuff coming that we might announce
also all that random bs on the gun, i wouldn't normally put that on there. i tried to get it pretty much exact to the h3 turret which if you examine closly, has everything i put on. n the same place, including the vent on the back. otherwise though, i totally agree with you mass. it does have non functioning random BS

Now on the topic of the thread:

It you guys do decide to place some custom content like weapons or vehicles into the level be sure that it has strategic value to the gameplay and not because it may be “cool” or what is in other games.

So often I see maps where people load them up with all kinds of H2/H3 styled weapons with no thought whatsoever about balance or how it affects game play. Just look at some of the early Bungie videos about all the weapons they created but never used in the game from chain guns to plasma weapons. But they never used them because they either didn’t fit the look of the game or more often because the game play became unbalanced.

As a player you want the most effective weapon to beat everyone. But as a level designer you need to take into consideration what the game will be like for EVERYONE if someone gets that “super weapon”. Being able to change or alter your perspective to think like that is what separates the map makers from the map hackers.
