Hey, Ive Played Halo For A While And I Wanted To Make Maps. Im Cheep And Skanky So I Didnt Use The Original Tuts Because I Dont Want To Buy Paint Shop 7 Or Whatever It Was. So Im Using FireDragon04's Tutorials.
On The Second Part He Was Ment To Tell You How To Add The Bases But He Didnt. He Only Said He Pulled Them From Infinity.
He Never Mentioned How To Do It, So I Was Wondering Does Anyone Know?
I Would Be Exstatic If Someone Could. I Would Love To Have The Bases And Textures From Maps Like Infinity.
Anyhow, I Have 3DS Max 7. So If Its more Complecated Than Doing File/Import Or Whatever It Is, Could Someone Make A Small Tutorial.
Many Thanks, I Will Always Look Up To You People... Seb

Did you look at the model section in the downloads? Some if not most of the base files are available already.

Are There Ones You Can Import Into 3DS Or Just Scenery Models?
Edit: And What About The Textures? Edited by Sebby123 on Aug 15, 2007 at 01:34 PM

Just so ya know, you don't need photoshop. You can use paint (Installed on comp). The tutorial people just use photoshop because it makes images look better. And you can always do the 30-day-trial.

The old fashioned way - rip them or use the tutorials to remake them using the bitmaps inside the data folders.
The hills are a part of the bsp. Making your own would be easier. Edited by SGWraith on Aug 15, 2007 at 02:38 PM

If you want the hills I can't help you - they are a part of the bsp - they are not tags.
If you want tags, you can download them from this site.
But if you want to know how to rip, search for Hek+ tutorials. Though I'd learn how to make maps first though. It will make much more sense if you learn that part first.

Just because the learning curve seems high isn't any reason to not try. Go ahead and watch the tutorials and give it a try.

Even by just watching tutorials you can learn alot. Most of what i know is from tuts, and not from actually doing it.
here is what you need to do. Watch some tuts and then after viewing several then decide if you want to get into mapping. try your hand at it. I did but i found it not to be for me.
also if you don't think mapping is for you there are other HEK related things you can get good with. Modeling bases, scenery, modeling weapons, tagging weapons, tag editing, modding, skinning vehicles, AI, and a few others.
alot of people who don't like to model will get into AI.
