if everyday people were throwing their post counts to try and suggest they were better then everyone i could see taking away post counts under our user names but that does not happen. Once in a blue moon people will but i have not really seen it used that way much, especially with senior members such as myself.
Some will use their post count to suggest they are better mappers, moders or whatever. But compaired to other halo communites we don't get that much.
Dennis could you give us some closure soon or something. I just want to know if you doing this as a joke, are serious or what.

we need our post counts to prove points. like if some person who has 1 post plans some complex thing, we explain it cant be done, and point at our post counts and join dates, and most of the time they will acualy listin.. either that, or spaz out on us

I agree as it does show we have been around awhile and know what has and has not been tried. Someone with 10 posts could tell a new person that AI does not sync, they may not believe them but they may believe someone more if they have over 1000 posts or something.
geko made a very good point

Edited by Tarzan on Aug 8, 2007 at 09:27 PM thats what I was talking about.... I really don't know what the other person was talkng about when he said post count... I understand both Dennis' and your sides of it... But the other guys... I have no clue.

i did not find a topic where people were slaming each other with post count, but i am not saying it did not happen.
but would one major argument like that mean we had to get rid of post counts under our user names?? If that really was what the reason was.

No, it was just that some person was making a map team, and didnt post any works, so people pointed it out... Then they persisted and then the topic poster started saying that it was all for post count... I found it random though.... Thats why i agree with Dennis and the others, but not the original poster of the topic... One event should not be enough to justify taking our post count away. I am not trying to justiy what ganon said but i think it was not enough to take all our post counts away under our user names. The whole community should not be punished.
the sigs were taked away due to constant abuse of the system, post counts have not experienced constant abuse so i think they should be brought back.
Dennis i know you would not just leave us hanging, but could you please make a topic or something to let us all know if this not showing post count thing is perm or not

Dennis does what he wants to his site. If he wants us to never ever again know our post counts, and just have the knowledge that we have posted more that once, but less than a billion (bazillion is not a real number, proof here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bazillion), he has a right to do this. It is his site after all. Edited by SiMuLaCrUm on Aug 8, 2007 at 10:46 PM

yea you can still look on the member lists to see who the more senior members are and see their post counts so us senior members won't be affected. People know i have been here awhile and post like a banshee (what do banshees post like) so i don't think many of us would be labeled newbs

Serious hacking attempts we take very, very seriously. HOLY SNAP! anyway I noticed it and thought it was a joke being played on gannon (lolz) and then I noticed it on everyone. It's not a big deal to me.... but it helped me differentiate how I respond to someone... like if they are new I can give them a somewhat thourow (spelling... cough) tutorial of sorts to help them where as people who have been here a while I can say something like " click the thing on the thingy that make this do that" where you replace thing and thingy with whatever your talking about. No big deal though. I thought Dennis said he was going to let us have custom avatars.... possibly but down the road a little. Maybe I read it wrong but it was in a topic about the no sig thing.

You have some people that just post and don't know what they're talking about... how's that helpful? Well it also helps if I forget if someone is an idiot or has some smarts... but thats the only other way it helps me.... oh well.

I think posting ranks would be a good if he chooses to never bring back post counts.

Why don’t you just treat everyone that way? (that is a rhetorical question and doesn’t require an answer) Quote: --- Original message by: Orange_Geko someone will end up calling someone a newb who isnt, Now you will have to read their post and assess them on what they say. Besides Newb (noob) is a relative term: From my perspective you are all either a newb or a pre-newb. The fact that this has upset people just proves my original point. Some of the members here are just not mature enough to evaluate the merits of a post based on its content and I suspect some post just to get the number higher. Why do you think the Bungie.net and Halo.Bungie.Org forms do not have post counts. They warned me but I said no that wouldn’t happen. I was wrong.

so are you taking away post counts forever then?
this is just too unexpected, cause of one topic the whole community now does not get post counts shown under their user names?
we have had post counts for a long time now, and it's never been a big problem, still isn't as far as i can see.
If your decision is final we will all live with it, but we are still waiting.
is this now a change for good?

how about just post ranks like Junior Member, ect? though i guess if Dennis wants no post counts he won't want that either.
just some topic earlier in the h2vista forum i think, someone tried to act like post counts were all important.

I know your question to me was retorical... but I just had to respond (ok so I didn't) and you have a point there. Usually I said things in short (like the thingy on the thing) to jog someones memory... and i realized that usually I spill the whole gosh darned thing out for no aparent reason anyway and it ends up being a long post.
Yeh I just realized something about myself.... I talk too much, but then again that doesn't bug me since my hands type faster then I can think. (wait what?)

Dsalimander you are putting the blame on the wrong people. I have never braged once about my post count, i have never used it against anyone, i have even publicaly admited my skills are lame. I can't map, can't model, such at modeling and of the people here for awhile i am by far the least experienced. People with well under 500 posts are like 10 times better then myself. My post count just means i am an experienced user of the forum, not with the Halo CE editing kit. I am pretty sure most people here can blow me out of the water with their knowledge of the HEK.
I have only mentioned my post count a few times, never to brag. It's sort of like a joke to us senior members of who wastes more time talking about Halo CE. Caboose and i have joked several times about this on the public forum. This is not the time to single out the senior members here, if you want to single me out do so about my user name, i admit it's rather stupid.
I have been looking for evidence of constant abuse of people saying their post count, i have found none. Just like 2 or 3 threads that it has even come up on.
One example of how post count has been helpful is: Well sometimes i get PM's from new members running ideas by me. they see my post count and decide to contact me Since i have been here awhile i can tell people with confidence if their idea may or may not work or has been done before.
I also think this is drastic but i just really want to know if this is final. Nevermind, looks like it is. (just realized it was)
just people will look at my join date from now on
