Well really, it's only been about one year. We did t&r from summer 2011-winter 2012, and then started TSC and SPV3 at the same time around summer 2012 till current, and we all had to halt progress during fall semester.

Well, it's more for our sake of managing space in the map and setting up features for them than to make them look pretty for you guys. All of our grunts have backpacks that can be shot off like reach, and we also have helmets for the specop grunts and such. We won't be redoing stock BSPs again like A50, it's a huge hassle and makes it harder to maintain proper FPS when you change an element that big near the end. I'm sure you're all familiar with the piss poor performance in A50's custom area.

It clips through the trees. The longsword needs to travel faster, and also be more synced to the sound your using it. It looks and sounds fake. A longsword is a stealth bomber - not some b29 super fortress. Its a dang b-2, and they go fast. The bombs dropped are extremely robotic, not sure if you've ever even seen any bomber drop bombs before, but its pretty chaotic - look at this video for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phzRY0DdRXk The bombs need to be spread out more, in various X and Y positions across the ground, and not go off in "lines" at the same exact moments. It looks really bad that way. One last thing thats always great is to have actual bombs fall from the bomber. A literal model with animations. It creates a great final touch to the entire scene. Given the scarcity of ordinance available to the Marines on Installation 04 (I believe it's mentioned in the books that they could barely find missiles for the Pelicans), I think that if you're going to be adding an airstrike to this level, there should be some Wraiths involved; higher-priority targets that you can't really deal with at this point any other way except by airstrike.
Maybe they could be coming up out of the tunnel or something. Edited by Echo77 on Jan 5, 2014 at 03:35 PM

The POA was in the middle of crashing at this point, do you think these forces would be mobilized so quickly? The longswords outside of the POA during the initial cutscene were probably blown to bits anyway by the entire Covenant fleet that was out there too. This kind of airstrike would probably be better purposed for a different mission, after Keyes has been rescued and the base was established.

Umm Captain Keyes is a great and wise man. You think he would tell his fleet of Longswords to attack a whole Covenant fleet that has his ship surrounded and is trying to capture? No way! Captain Keyes told the Longsword pilots "Look bro, I'm going to land the ship on the ring, you guys go scout it and find a place to land so we can have air support when we try to regroup and fight the Covenant on the ground."
So basically, what Captain Keyes is trying to say is he doesn't give a crap about what cannon he may or may not be breaking, because you can talk around the swiss cheese that is this games story. Edited by Masters1337 on Jan 5, 2014 at 06:56 PM

This kind of airstrike would probably be better purposed for a different mission, after Keyes has been rescued and the base was established. I dunno about that. If a target as big as the Autumn made it down, and the unarmed lifepods were able to make it down with limited maneuvering ability, I don't think it's too unbelievable that at least a few of the Autumn's Longsword escorts made it as well. It's not too far of a stretch to consider that a portion of the surviving fighters might follow the lifepods, perhaps even being the main reason the pods were able to reach the surface without being blown out of the sky. The pilot of said Longsword might not have been "mobilized" when carrying out the airstrike at this point; he'd probably be improvising, trying to provide a bit of cover for the pods that, for all he knows, contain the Autumn's last survivors.

I don't think rechargeable plasma weapons violates canon; there has to be some way to recharge them, otherwise each weapon could only be used once. And that would just be silly.

Edited by Masters1337 on Jan 5, 2014 at 06:56 PM Even if it is canon, its a pretty terrible spot to put something as epic as a longsword bombing run. If you really would put it here, your going to need to back it up with better stuff farther into the campaign. I don't know if you've ever realized (I don't think CMT has ever payed a lick of attention to this kind of stuff - your guys missions show it) but a game, especially one like Halo, takes time to build up to things. Alot of the missions I've played by you guys introduces just about everything in a single mission - why do this if you have to make more levels afterward? They just become rehashes of the same things introduced over and over. I'm talking about weapons, ammo, grenade types, vehicles, enemies, etc etc. e.g it's like putting all the covenant variants into the POA mission without leaving any room to explore more in the further missions afterward, especially when you guys are increasing level sizes to pretty boring lengths (seriously, the original lengths were perfectly acceptable, some were long as they were). The longsword is the same thing as that - it takes time to build up to those kind of epic moments people don't expect. You can go Micheal Bay explosions all you want, but that doesn't make it any better than it already is and frankly makes things like a longsword bombing run - and whatever keeps coming - boring and predictable.

i disagree, i think that any surviving longswords would sure as a grunt birthday party, have gotten out of the PoA before it crashed... unless they were all baked out their minds. next, i figure since at that point, since they wouldn't have a base, they'd probably try to find a safe point to land to save fuel and supplies. if CMT believes alpha base is more important than conserving fuel, then that's their choice, but i doubt there'd be anything else worth the fuel cost in that mission.

That looked cool to me. I can't wait. I'm pretty sure you've read Halo: The Flood, which is my favorite novel of the franchise. I think if a squad of pelicans could make it out of the POA with Foe hammer, it seems logical for at least 1 or 2 Longswords to have made it out intact. Even though the book doesn't mention it. Although, i kind of have to agree with Higuy on the building up for the Longsword airstrike. However, i don't remember a level that would give you decent amount of space for a proper airstrike other than the the second level. From what i remember, the rest of the levels are just boxes, except for TSC. TSC is like half opened box... Edited by Kal825B on Jan 5, 2014 at 10:29 PM
