I am a noob to uploading maps (not a noob to making maps, just uploading ) and I have a few questions. I have uploaded one map before, but it wasn't a "real" map. It was the Green-screen map in the Machimania section. How long does it usually take for Dennis to upload a map? and does it matter if you use the FTP or HTTP transfer??? I know these are pretty nooby questions, but I am just curious.

it can take up to a week for Dennis to approve the upload. Usually ever weekend he approves new uploads, thats what i have noticed anyway.

Yes, I read those, but for some reason, the day after I uploaded the Green-Screen map, it was on the site, was it just luck that it was the day that he approved?

Since this gets asked all the time I guess I should answer it once and for all. I review and upload maps when I have the time. Unlike moderating this forum, where I can I can drop in for a couple of minutes at a time, it can take several hours to un-archive, re-archive, test, take screenshots and upload maps to the website and file archives. Even a single map can take 10-20 minutes or more. So I do it when I have time.

I work. I run a full time business and that takes precedent over the Halo Maps websites, it is also what supports them and allows me to run them. So work comes first. Being that it is my business I also often work long hours at it so it is not like I quit at 5 o’clock and go home to manage the website. I do it when I can.

The weekends and holidays are typically when I have some free time. I come in to work on Sundays to do backups, clean the office and empty the trash; yes it’s a small business. Since I have to wait for the backups to finish it gives me time to approve the uploads. That is why it appears as if there is a schedule and looks as if it is on the weekends. There isn’t a schedule. I just do it when I have time. Some times I have time during the week and test some uploads then. Last week since the 4th was a US holiday I had time to review maps in the middle of the week and if you uploaded and it got posted right away it was just the luck of the draw.

I hope this answers everyone’s question about when and how maps get posted.

you should sticky something with that post in it. It would perhaps put to rest so many people asking the question.

though you will still get them cause alot of people for some odd reason don't read sticky threads.
