This is for a new project yet to be announced.

So it starts to build portals then this fills the log:
tried to add more elements for a structure_bsp_cluster_block @0023C98C #8192 than allowed
Its the same as i know but repeated. so that is with os_tool but with tool i just get
couldn't allocate cluster.

Your portals are wrong pm your map and I will show you why.

Does anyone have a good tutorial for setting up portals for a campaign map if that makes any difference as i just keep failing.

If it even matters here are a couple things wrong with your bsp:

1.

+Portals should all exist within one object, select any one of the 3 portal meshes you have made then attach the other two to it in edit mesh mode.

2.

Box portals are completely the wrong way to go about portalling, first of all you are not dividing enough geometry since you have a ton of it in your bsp, secondly the side faces of your portal boxes are completely useless seeing as the player will never interact with them.

Plane portals are probably the best way to go. (pink squares.)

3.

Your mesh is way to small to accommodate anything bigger than a grunt. If you require reference meshes to attenuate the correct scale for your map, import the ones found in the tutorial.max file. (data\levels\test\tutorial\models\tutorial.max)

4.

5.

Rule number 1 of game design, if you can't see it it isn't needed. So optimize those verts.
