Complete and utter nonsense. True "higher-ups" can make that call.
Those you mention are then not "higher-ups". They are simply puppets.

But of course it sounds lovely to be able to say you know "higher-ups". People will respect you for knowing them!

"x=call of duty"
This phrase makes me assume that you have no knowledge of game design.

Well to be fair sprint and ads were added into Halo 5 because "it is expected from a modern fps" And since CoD 4 was the first to implant sprint, his point is valid to se extent.

Sprint would have been added in Reach regardless due to it being one of those features that they tried to implement multiple times in the past.

ADS is something I know some of the higher up people at 343 prefer not to use, and is in there because "COD".

It was considered in Halo 2 but scrapped in early development because they realised how gamebreaking it was. Halo would probably ee long dead if they went with it.

They only added it to Reach to prototype stuff for Destiny. Really Reach was just one big Destiny pre-alpha. And besides the negative feedback and quickly dropping population of Reach, 343i still decided to build up from the prototype called Reach while they should have built up from the last succesfull Halo game.

One of the instances, the fin thingies has a bad UV which pisses the hell out of me. There isn't anything worth commenting on IMO.

It wasn't scrapped because it was gamebreaking in H2, H2 was just a crap show and they never got it in. Then they tried again in H3.

Reach was done by a completely different gameplay designer, who was doing the types of things people hated about Reach long before he even worked at Bungie. You can go check out the Shadowrun Alpha and you'll see that the designer had a mind of his own on what he wanted to do. That said, Reach is just a mashup of his ideas and other ideas in Halo games that were cut (wildlife, boats, guardian forest, sprint, falcon) or the community wanted (ie jetpacks, space combat)

I'm not sure if we're fit for the job. I mean sure, having to run CE3 every year is enticing IMO, which is why I believe a more professional crew would be way more suited than us bunch of amateurs.

We could do it, it would just be a lot less fancy in terms of in-between parts. And we'd still have Slowbullet as he simply does not wanna quit. (I wonder if he's still drinking)

My sources tell me it was indeed scrapped because it was gamebreaking.
One reason was that the classic map remakes would have been broken by such a game-shifter.

If they really went with it they would have shown it in the 2003 E3 demo, as it was after that when they scrapped everything.

Except there is support in it in the H2 engine which was rewritten after E3 2003, and they animated it into several weapons after E3 2003. And then there is further development on it in H3.

I have full code access to the H2 engine through my sources I cannot name.
I quickly checked the code, and can confirm there is no support for it at all.

lol masters they didn't try again in halo 3. The animator confirmed nothing was done for it. And it was cut because it was breaking the pace.

It doesn't matter if they planned it or not, what matters is if they didn't implant it. And if they did, Halo would have been killed right there.

You can easily go look in the H3 maps and you'll see there are new flags for it, clearly they did something with it after H2. Sprint was a feature H2 was even announced with, regardless of how well it worked it was inevitable for a Halo game.

Sprint the way it was planned for H2 wasn't even intended to be initiated by button presses, it's impossible to judge how it well it would have worked. It doesn't seem like it was ever even expected to be something people could do in combat.

This was posted early 2003, I believe X02 was in the fall of 2002? So not exactly at announcement but probably the first PR that came out after it was announced it was a thing

I was referring to the actual announcement trailer, but I actually recall reading that "sketchy" Q&A back in the day. Peeking around corners and flash-bangs were all at least mentioned in it too.

Those features would have all been quite neat for single player. In retrospect I'm surprised flash bangs never made it into Halo.

I can open a biped in H2Guerilla, and tell you that bipeds support boosting... of course, that's because its implemented in the Unit super type, but I assume the ex-sprint probably runs off that. The player biped animations don't have any sprint, in third person, or any of the FPs I've ever seen.

I'm going to have to agree with Masters on this one, Halo 2's production was far too chaotic to even remotely have a meaningful implementation of Sprint. To put it plainly, most developers of Halo 2 were just glad the game had an "ending." They were more worried if the game would ever hit the stores than incorporating an overly complex plot or extraneous gameplay mechanics.

Just to clarify, discussion to add a feature and actual attempts to implement it are two different things. Halo 2/3 are examples of the former that didn't make it to production. Halo: Reach is an exemplary of the ladder.
