The topic says it all. Edited by Microsoft Sam on Jul 30, 2015 at 02:34 AM Well a crash can be the root of many causes so in the future please narrow it down. :) Okay now for the fix, first of all scoot through the basics. > Make sure HCE is running in compatibility mode and you are running the app as an admin. > Did you reboot (restart) your pc once windows 10 had finished downloading and installing? > Update your graphics card drivers! Especially if you are Nvidia user. 1. As for the last fix some times it works sometimes it doesn't but first restart your pc.
2. Now go ahead and create a shortcut to haloce from the installation directory.
3. It will force you to save said shortcut to your desktop which is perfectly fine.
4. Right click on the shortcut you created and slap the properties option in the rollout.
5. Once you have done so a small window should pop up with 5 tabs, select the tab named "shortcut"
6. Then inside the "target" field left click on any part of the current address and then hold the right arrow key until the letter marker is to the right of the end quotes.
7. Now hit the space bar and type "-safemode" without the quotes.
8. It should now resemble this: 9. Once you have followed the correct procedures stated above go ahead and apply your settings to the shortcut and then close the window and boot up halo.
10. If it didn't work at this point report back with the exact details of where and when the crash happens and also if there is any audio or error report retrievable.
11. If it did work then you may notice that most of halo's features have been removed from the game, this is effectively the point of safemode so you know need to close halo > go into the shortcut I had you configure and now remove just the "-safemode" argument > hit apply & okay restart your pc then just run halo from that shortcut but make sure -safemode has been removed from the target field of the shortcuts properties.

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and had Custom Edition installed. After a bit of troubleshooting, I can say that HAC 2 is to blame if you're crashing on startup (at least for me). Otherwise, the game starts up normally. I have no idea if OS functions with 10, but I'll be looking into that shortly.

Never though I'd say this, but I guess I'll be sticking with OS as well. Works like fine wine.
I'm gonna miss those Optic medals, though.

I should point out YOU WILL experience MORE problems on machine pre-installed with win10 as opposed to a machine you have upgraded to win10.
(I had no problems with hac 2 but I noticed OS downloaded Ascension automatically for me yesterday so I removed hac2. Not to say I am ungrateful to BTCC for his efforts it's just I use hac2 solely for the purpose of downloading maps I do not have and if OS can do it I'm willing to forgo hac for OS)

If your HAC2 isn't working, make sure you have this and this installed. Edited by Btcc22 on Jul 31, 2015 at 05:58 PMEdited by Btcc22 on Jul 31, 2015 at 10:11 PM

its a good thing I have 2 partitions for windows OS's. I always hold onto 7, and 8.1. both are needed for different reasons such as driver compatibility and game operation old and new
