When in Doubt, RUN!

we'd rather have mind blowing updates than small tidbits of information that nobody really cares about. It makes the eventual reveal of bigger updates seem really dull. Given we could probably pace more and have less time between the big updates, but that's all really based on the amount of work we get done, which tends to vary a lot.

Lots of hype in this thread

tbh if you're gonna make the game and want it be as successful as possible, post many meaningful blog posts/twitter posts/screenshots etc of the game while its in progress! It makes you guys not look like a super secret evil corporation and obviously you guys aren't making money. If you're worried about spoiling plot or something you can simply work around that.

I honestly say hold back until you want to. A lot of people get way to caught up in showing wips that they forget to finish the actual thing.

Well, theres a difference though between showing half baked screenshots and stuff that looks professional.

What I'm really getting at is that if you go to Contingency's website, there hasn't been an update in over 7 months (almost 8). If they really are working on it, you'd hope for there to be at least some kind of update once a month or so. You can say they are still working on it, which I believe, but its not like its currently generating a whole lot of interest towards the game in any meaningful way.

Well if its still 1+ years out from release, then no, that's probably bad. It'd be like if a movie was coming out in 2017 and they put out a new preview every month. The entire thing would just get dull.

Just steal "ficus's" code and add better tags.

I suppose this was never explicitly stated, but Ficus was discontinued awhile ago in favor of UE4 D-:

Was one hell of a learning experience though.

No offence to you but unless higuy backups your claim I can't really take what you wrote at face value.

But if it is true I'm taking my ficus posters down.

I basically programmed that entire thing myself. But I don't care if you believe me.

Yeah this was told when we announced Pillars that it would be for UE4 instead. We moved over to it in December/January.

If you guys would like to see the old documentation for the Ficus Engine, I can post it.

Source code isn't going to be posted unless Lodex really wants too. It was left incomplete and Lodex has said that if it were ever to be revived, most of it would be rewritten anyway from the top down.

If it would please the man I'd really like to see anything you have on it. Not to re-use or anything like that; I've never used the language for game-related stuff and I'm keenly interested in the methods.
