I'm looking to join the map editing community to get some experience in game design/programming and have played Halo CE since 2002.

Is there any place that has it for free? If there are other tools I should be worried about please post them here, I'm following the official tutorials.

The tutorials are a bit.. dated allong with 3ds max 5. Not sure if you could even still buy it. I recommend getting a student license for the newer max versions(2012+). It does not have perfect support with CE but it works fine. Get it at students.autodesk.com .

You will need Bluestreak to export models which is available on this website.

Also, it does not finish the installation.

Also, these are just the trial versions. Also, 3ds Max 8 and below are not meant for Windows Vista or higher.

This is what I've been getting from attempting to install the 2013 student version that has a temporary trial. I'll be trying out the other things posted in this thread tomorrow.

I don't know man, maybe anything that does what the tutorials wants you to do. I want to get some progress, be it learning the tool or going straight to map making.

Seeing things like this(http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=2732) makes me really excited.

If I were to come in contact with someone who could help me along on Skype perhaps, that would be really nice.

You're welcome. I figured that I had to point it out to you since it seems you only know the first cardinal rule. Maybe you should try reading them all before coming at me. I just may be a hypocrite, but at least I'm not a fool who falsely accuses someone.

It's funny because you've done the same thing more than once. Irony is very funny.

I would say that 3DS Max 8 is better for Halo CE, but since that plugin Sprinkles made. Only reason you would need 8 is for some legacy support.

I agree with this.
