Please read first and hate later. So, I was thinking, if it's possible too extract say The libraries BSP and add in flood AI, and use it as a multiplayer map, couldn't that be co-op campaign?? I mean I know some AI won't sync over the network, but there's TONS of other maps, with AI as well? So don't hate I just wanted too know if it's possible.

Yes, you can do that. No, it's not real co-op because you don't see the same things your teammates do. I think that only the damage from the AI in the host PC is the damage every player receives, so it's pointless (if you're not the host) to try shooting the things YOU see. Working online Co-OP with traditional AI is not possible. Local Co-Op (2 controllers on the same PC) is possible, but no one has done it yet. AI can't sync with Halo PC's netcode without going through an elaborate and overly complicated spawning process, which is not worth the trouble. It would be easier to mod Halo 3 to be more like CE.

You asked a really stupid question without bothering to read the full post you were replying to, and Altis just gave you the precise portion of said post that answers your question. At least he didn't just facepalm and move on, which is probably what I would have done if I'd gotten here first :/ Quote: --- Original message by: Stainless Working online Co-OP with traditional AI is not possible. Could you please elaborate on that local co-op on the same PC point? That's very interesting if it's true. Is there any code left in the engine relating to local co-op, do you know? Aside from that being very cool on it's own if it is possible, as even local coop would be awesome at this point, as I'm sure most people have friends they can just invite over for a couch party. (which is cool anyway because people are being far too lazy with online mp) But aside from local coop, there is also the possibility that with fibre connections, one could stream the game at low quality to another PC and pretend it's splitscreen in order to play kinda online coop. Would need fibre on both sides of course as you'd be streaming video between the two. And I'm not sure exactly how the controls could be split, but I assume it's reasonably viable.

So far it seems like Kirby's only restored the UI elements for starting a co-op/split screen game. I also know that the spawns for split screen co-op are still built into the campaign map so theoretically it's possible to do it without some weird trick like running another instance of ce in a virtual machine (currently the only way to do it) but even with that AI wouldn't sync. Another method would be to take a Custom Edition map and convert it to an xbox map and send it to your modded xbox. It's pretty easy to convert a map, and even softmod an original xbox nowadays.

I only hate kirbae because I wish i had his MLG pro-scopes skills, he is sponsored by Mountain Dews and Dorrito and I'm sponsored by no-body. I wish kirbae loved me back.

AFAIK the only current obstacles are getting the split screen view, and getting input device 2 to be able to log into a profile.

On that note, all the HUDs would have to be redone with split screen in mind.

In any meaningful or useful way you can not sync AI over a network connection to create a co-op game like you describe. The core game engine and network code was not designed for it and all scripting hacks and workarounds do not scale to allow for a true co-op with AI campaign. The exceptions people keep citing only support the rule that the Halo CE game was not designed for the functionality you describe.

I was gonna post something about network replication being stupidly difficult to do when the engine doesn't support what you're wanting to do, but it looks like everybody else beat me to the punch. Sucks, but considering the things that have been done with the old engine regardless, and... well, you can't have everything I suppose.
