Hi all,

I hope you'll forgive the newb post. As far as I could tell this was the most active Halo Custom Edition community, and I was in need of some information.

It's been something like six to seven years since I last played Halo CE, and recently I've been wanting to get back into it. It would seem that a lot has happened since I stopped playing, and I was wondering if any of you guys could update me on what's been happening with Halo CE. Is the community still active? Which specific communities are the most active? What's up with this new Halo CE patch? What are the modded maps that are generally used nowadays? Any projects or events I should keep updated with?

Any other miscellaneous information would also be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

- Michael

When gamespy servers shutdown, halo's master server was taken offline. The new V1.0.10 patch moved Gamespy services to use new non-Gamespy server (I.E. V1.0.10 patch fixed MP )
You can read the full change log here: http://hce.halomaps.org/?pg=3&fid=6798

You should get halo antiCheat 2 (HAC2) http://blog.haloanticheat.com/
It add many features to halo PC and halo CE such as automatic map downloading, server bookmarks and custom Field Of View.

There is also another mod for halo ce it is called openSauce (currently incompatible with V1.0.10, but kornman00 is going to fix it) https://code.google.com/p/open-sauce/

some maps that are worth downloading (the ones that come to mind):
Firefight Descent [Single Player]
lumoria [Single Player]
Takedown: Project Lawson[Single Player]
Takedown: The Introduction[Single Player]
projects (WIP)
CMT SPV3
bigass [MP]

Halo CE3 is also worth checking : http://forum.halomaps.org/index.cfm%3Fpage=topic&topicID=45276

Given the Gamespy server shutdown, upon (re)installation should I opt not to install Gamespy/uninstall Gamespy after installation? Or should I just leave it and then install the patch?

And could someone quickly clarify what openSauce and SPV3 are?

Sorry y'all for the intense n00bine$$.

lol no need to apologize.

OpenSauce is a blam! engine extension (the one Halo runs on).
Basically, it increases the potential for stuff to become more pretty. And awesome. You can just download and install it for free, courtesy of Kornman00, the mastermind behind OpenSauce.

SPV3 is a Single Player mod of the game. A50 (Truth and Reconciliation) was released back in 2012 so you can go grab that.
Here's a youtube playlist of stuff that CMT (people running the SPV3 operation) worked on after they released their map in 2012.

There's a Halo Custom Edition showcase run by user named Matthew Dratt here. It's July sometime so you can check out updated SPV3 stuff then too.

E: As for the gamespy thing... it hasn't hurt to keep it on my computer, so I just left mine. I dunno whether it should be removed or not though.

AFAIK Open Sauce isn't compatible with the new patch, you'll have to wait for the dev to update it first.

Another noteworthy mod is SAPP. It's a server-side mod (just join a SAPP server, no need to download/install anything) that fixes the shot lead problem. It also adds tons of new server functionality, such as customization of gametypes far beyond what can be done with the gametype editor.

To find out if a server is running SAPP (and if the no-lead feature is enabled), type /info into the chat upon joining.

Also worth noting: there is now a custom UI (main menu) that allows you to directly launch select singleplayer and firefight maps without the use of devmode. I would definitely recommend it if you want to save some time and also more easily find some other good maps out there.

You can get to that UI from here:
Universal UI

Welcome back to Halo CE!

If by great you mean that the only joke he can come up with is something involving semen then it is great.
The 12 year old in me laughs at the jokes though. You should look at the videos when you get the chance for maps and such.
