Altis found some storyboards for deleted custcenes that were to be in Halo: Combat Evolved. I showed these to Peep210, who then found dialogue, music, and other concepts that didn't appear in the final game. I found it all quite interesting and decided to post some links here, in case anyone might find them useful. • Launch Video• Dialogue Outtakes, Various Characters (Download files and open in media player to listen) • Cut Music (Download files and open in media player to listen) • Storyboards, Including Those of Deleted Cutscenes• Box Art/AdvertisementsCredit for all of these assets goes to Bungie, of course. Feel free to link any interesting finds in the comments. Edited by Echo77 on Jan 15, 2014 at 11:32 PM

Most of the deleted songs have been remastered in CEA. "Heretic Machine", for example, is the remastered version of "Tron". Now I see where those songs came from... Anyway, those stuff will be pretty useful. Thanks a lot!

Yeah, this scene in particular caught my eye, with Keyes addressing the survivors. Perhaps one of the reasons it was cut was that they couldn't get an appropriately-sized crowd of Marines on-screen?

Wow, I forgot about all of this. I remember when Louis linked to it on HBO (anyone remember that site?) back in like... 2002?
I've always wondered what Halo would have been if Microsoft hadn't forced Bungie's hand in releasing as an Xbox launch title.
Anyone still have the original box art that showed crap that wasn't in the final game?

The original box art for the Xbox (before they changed it to holographic and plastered it with reviews) had two pictures on the back that showed a Marine piloting a Scorpion on AotCR, and another one of the Master Chief flying a banshee on Silent Cartographer. The disc had a manufacturing flaw that caused the game to not load AotCR properly (it failed like 30% of the time), so I traded it in for the one with all the crap on it so I could have a functional disc.
If you want a real trip, look up some of the 1999-early 2001 tech demos. The best one is called "The Evolution of Halo" (too lazy to look it up now) and shows all the stages from real-time strategy to 3rd person adventure to E3 2000 Halo. There's also another one from like spring 2001 that shows TSC with a prototype HUD and all sorts of scrapped content. It's pretty neat.

No it wasnt echo :/ it had a sorta cartoony look on the front. also. Why does bungie always give elites 3 toes in concept art when they ALWAYS use 2? Edited by MEGASEAN2812 on Jan 17, 2014 at 12:54 AMand an interesting thing i found. The SPV1 Chief was based off all the old concept art. Back when we were doing that, H3 had just been announced and we had nothing to go off of. I think I am the only one who liked the look of that old biped, although some of the proportions are off.

I noticed a few other similarities between SPV1 and the pre-Xbox Halo builds, particularly the anti-aircraft rocket launcher. Were the early builds the source of inspiration for the SPV1 minigun and underbarrel grenade launcher? Were there any other assets that were based on pre-Xbox Halo content?

I forget if there was anything else, I don't think the BR's grenade launcher was pre-xbox inspired, it was just something Wave of Lag did. The AR animations were using the unused animations left in by Bungie though, and at one point we were going to restore the walking shades, but it looked ridiculous. SPV1 was really just us messing around, we put it together in about 6 months.

Anyone else remember when the Xbox was first modded and everyone started finding all those unused assets in TSC and the multiplayer? It's funny thinking back on how everyone went nuts over the prospect of using a FLAME THROWER or that gravity spade that didn't do anything. Or the Engineer with no AI.

I just wish they left in some of the dialog from TSC. One thing no ones ever done is fully document Halo's sound files. There's some pretty interesting stuff about the scorpion being destroyed, as well as dialog for johnson fighting flood and forerunner.

b40 line 380. There's a lot of nice Johnson stuff in b40 as well, none which we are using in SPV3 since we've elevated Johnson's character to be your sniper buddy for the missions with him, and he is "gone" by B30. The flood and forerunner stuff can be found in his dialog tag.
If you want to get on Xfire/aim/skype, I can send you my Halo Dialog bible if you want to check out what I've organized. It be nice if we could put together a team and split up the levels and such and fully inspect all the games dialog, most of which is largely undocumented. Yeah there was tons of cut stuff from B40
-A Covenant dropship was supposed to touch down after you kill the first wraith and enemies. -B40 was the one mission where a marine would actually drive the warthog if you got in the gunner seat, drive it off that ramp and crash. -Tons of cut dialogue. -Scorpion was supposed to be vulnerable
Actually there is some cool stuff in a50 too, where the covenant can supposedly use the switches on the shuttle bay doors to stop echo 419 from providing reinforcements.
There is also a video where you can see the blindwolves in the beggining of a30.
For those talking about the banshee on b30, if you open the scenario there is banshees laying around as well as ghosts, that were unused. I think this is good though, b40 was the perfect level for introducing the covenant vehicles.
