Hello everyone, Slow Bullet here with an idea I would like to test. As you all or mostly know Halo Maps just updated with new maps, tags, etc... Well my love for this game has grown into an epic idea, so I and Dratt have decided to come up with an Idea. That Idea is The HMU Server (HMU= Halo Maps Update) Have you ever wanted to play on the newest DLC for CE with your friends or just everyone who plays CE? Well soon you can. This server will stay intact with the latest Twitter feed from @HaloCEmaps That way you can find the latest new DLC for Halo CE. The server will then switch with every HMU with the newest content. Pros: 1. It's a great way to play the new maps and see which ones are crap or are excellent! 2. Fun new way to play with friends on the latest DLC 3. Explore new worlds, Game types, Role Play, Etc... Cons: 1. A lot of download required usually. 2. Still not quite sure how popular it will be. This will only be a Beta Test. So right now We need your opinions, What do you think of this Idea? The server is not up yet until we can get a trusted person to host this server. SERVER IS UP http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/8.6.75.207:2302/b/ Edited by Slayer117 on Feb 12, 2013 at 01:31 AMCompatible with HAC, able to download the maps just by joiningEdited by Slayer117 on Feb 12, 2013 at 03:11 PM

Dratt, that'd make the testing new maps to find out how good they are idea void.
I think this is a brilliant idea. Maybe only custom maps though. That's the only thing that I can see wrong with it. I don't think anybody wants to test a bunch of Bloodgulch mods every week.

Bullet forgot to mention that there will be a video update along with this too.
It's currently in production and will be up later tonight. (Like how I made HMU like 2 updates ago)

There should be an app to vote for the most badass maps out of the update* and take the others away. Or just allow fresh BSPs. Edited by bourrin33 on Feb 11, 2013 at 04:27 PM

It should be on a volunteer basis
otherwise, your computer will get flooded with the millions of sub-par blood gulch mods and box maps.

Yeah, I agree. You two (or whoever'll be managing the server) should be in control of how the maps'll be decided. Quote: --- Original message by: bourrin33 There should be an app to vote for the most badass maps out of the update* and take the others away. Or just allow fresh BSPs. You know, this just gave me a brilliant idea... What if you have an elimination match-ish poll in this server (like in the S-EXT and SAPP systems) for the best maps? Players could vote for the best map in each round of Dennis' uploads, and the winning map is added to the server's playlist when new maps are added? PS: Just a thought, but I think it'd also be cool if we could also see a server that has a "menu" of maps that change every week to show off new and somehow-hidden maps. Kinda like a "chef's daily special", but with maps. (i.e. -when's the last time you've seen a server using Sciophobia , Precipice or Ambry?) Not sure if y'all have the financial power for this, but if you do, it would be cool if you can do this.

How the server would work:
First couple of days all the maps on HMU would be on the server. After that it slowly dwindles down to the ones the users like the most. Server will also have user favorite, just like Renegade said.

Btw, the problem with having to download a lot of maps can be solved, for players at least. You could just recommend HAC or OS on the server's announcements. Ask Btcc to add the new maps to his servers regularly(if you go HAC) and then players can just sit back and download maps as they play on the server.

There's an interesting looking "greenrange" map up in this update, or something like that name. Looks like a nice map to just drive around in and enjoy the scenery.

Quote: --- Original message by: Lestat Please:
1. Only allow featured/favorited maps. Wise Mr. Powers has seen hundreds of maps and knows which is which. Do not question his all powerful wisdom. The only exception to this is that Dennis purposely puts MODS into the nonfeatured section by default, regardless of content. For this reason, all maps must first be considered before this rule is blindly applied. If you do this, I'll actually consider joining.
2. Having a map pack that accurately reflects what's on the server, hosted at MediaFire or something. This is something I highly recommend. I downloaded the Lumoria map pack a day ago and it took half an hour (for about half a GB). I can poop faster. As I've said before, only allowing featured maps would void the idea of being able to test any new maps to see how high quality they are. Besides, as 'Wise Mr. Powers' has explained before, everybody likes different things. The maps he decides to feature might not be to a lot of peoples' liking and the maps he decides not to feature might be to a lot of people's liking. Even then, a 'lot of people' isn't 'everyone'. Some people might like maps that nobody else likes. I'm sure you can survive through a few maps you dislike regardless. ;)

I hardly have the patience to do this with good maps. Crappy maps? No. How about I make a hundred box maps with nothing in them and upload them so that next update, you'll all have to play them. Sound like fun? I'm sure the trolls would join me. This just screams "ITS OK TO UPLOAD CRAPPY MAPS!". It's not. Edited by Lestat on Feb 13, 2013 at 02:03 AM That's why I suggested only real custom maps. That should really be an obvious suggestion though.
