Could anyone suggest what software i should use except for gmax12, HEK if i want to make single player maps?

I have already read Dennis thread on the page.

I recommend...
-word - for making a level script or story plot.
-a piece of paper and pencils - for designing your levels (I always skip that bit... I can draw stickmen :D) optional.
-Gmax1.2 is what I use, but many prefer 3ds max (I heard max 8) - for modeling assets and environments. Also for animating.
-adobe reader - for reading all those tutorials.
-notepad or notepad++ - for scripting (after reading Kirby's tutorial, it's the best scripting tutorial out)
-paint shop pro or photoshop - for making textures. Optional.

That's all I use, apart from word, I do my story scripts/plots on my iPad using "Pages".
