Set your fears aside, having come all the way from halo 1 ,and ce obviously, to halo 4... i think i can safely say halo 4 is one of, if not, the best halo game to have been released.
Went ahead and go it yesterday, had a blast! The campaign is a lot of fun, spartan ops is really in-depth and fun with friends and the best part...
competitive multiplayer is back! Already had a match against another clan on the vahalla remake and it was amazing! Anyone who doubts this game really shouldn't have anything to fear. 343 did i fantastic job with this!
Haven't gotten around to trying out forge mode but i cant wait to see what users make.
As far as the things i wish i had seen or anything less then satisfying: -I don't like the direction they took with the sound. Its not game breaking at all but it could have been more halo style; just try the plasma pistol. -No Bungie/343 favorites like from halo 3? Haven't really looked to much so i could be wrong on this
Now... i figure some people might be interested in making textures from halo 4... maybe model some weapons, ect. I can send pictures of ingame if anyone would like, just message me.
Anyone else have the same experience with the game here? Loved it<3

Haven't played the game yet. (and might not ever be able too... T-T) But i have watched some game-play, and one of the things that pissed the hell out of me is 343 being too much of a lazy ass to actually design original forerunner weapons! (Not just some re-design covenant/human weapons.) >:( And they made the elites alot less agile looking. They now look like walking stumps. Overall. It looked good, but i think Halo 1 had the best combat ai's in the whole series. (They're really good at dodging grenades and vehicles compared to the rest.) Just me.

Considering there was only one Forerunner weapon we had access to prior to 343's involvement (the Sentinel Beam), I'd say they did ok in terms of designing original ones. I'm not a fan of the Scattershot, though.

I got my copy and If I was to compare it to another Halo game, id say its better then Halo Reach, better then Halo 3: ODST, and almost on par with Halo 3.
It had issues, like the plot expands on Greg Bears crappy Forerunner back story, and the situation with Cortana was a bit lame in my opinion.
The gameplay made up for some of what the plot lacked though, however there wasn't any real "iconic" levels like the previous Halo games, except perhaps the 2nd level when you come out and see some gorgeous enviroment, amazing soundtrack playing in the background, and endless vista... I literally took a step back and simply admired the view for a good couple of minutes. However after a while, they all kinda felt the same when it came to encounters, nothing terribly unique about each one, especially the forerunner enviroment portions of the game. There also seemed to be two very different level designers/teams on the game, one was decent while the other was pretty bad. Some of the enemies werent that fun to fight either, mainly just the Promethean Knights (Which also looked stupid as if they came out of a Japanese game). They were bullet sponges, similar to the brutes found in Halo 2... However the Covenant enemies were all fun to fight, and the levels that focused on them instead were more fun then the others.
The game also had some other issues though, like even the controls for the Banshee and the flying fighter jet at the end were terrible and not fun to drive. The Mantis, the big mech driving vehicle, was fun to drive however (even though I find the total idea of a mech really impractical and not Halo suited) and worked well in its environments.
Also, whoever did the job of putting the sounds into the game really did a terrible job. The sentinels and the warthog both sound really stupid, and the musics quality at some points compared to even what I have on the soundtrack seemed lower quality on my nice 5.1 surround sound, and poorly represent the awesome quality of the soundtrack itself.
What lacks however in some of the gameplay and plot was definitely made up in visuals though. The game is very beautiful looking, its crisp and clean and very detailed. I'm not a big fan of the some the design choices but what is there is definitely impressing.
It isn't the "best Halo ever" like some say, but I'll give 343 some credit for trying. If your skeptical about the game, pick it up and try it out because its worth giving a chance and developing an opinion on it.

I won't be able to buy the game til this weekend, but I've been looking at a lot of different non spoiler campaign footage and the biggest issue I can really notice before playing the game is the covenant
visual-wise
I like the elites more than I did in Reach, but I still think they need more armor
The grunts and jackals are just terrible re-imaginings imo. They truly look like locust from gears of war, and they both have this disgusting locust style gray lumpy flesh thing going on. Jackals look like fish lizards, with almost no bird features present any more, which I find as being an insult to the halo franchise. The grunts I can deal with more than the jackals, even if they look like obese reptilian midgets. I don't know why these two look similar either. After all, they all come from drastically different planets and backrounds, so why do they both look like they're from Sera? I truly hope they re think these horrid excuses for redesigns in the future games. Don't get me wrong, the models and textures are beautiful, but they're not what covenant should ever look like
That's really the only thing I find unsatisfactory besides the sounds, but that case has already been made by higuy, so I won't elaborate further.
All in all though, waiting to be able to buy this game is killing me slowly and drastically trying my patience. The multiplayer looks killer and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this game and break out the DMR (which has GREEN numbers by the by, making me a happy camper ;) ) alongside the new boltshot pistol

As far as campaign goes (haven't beaten it yet) whether i like it or not isn't a game breaker for me, im just in it for the competitive multiplayer. I enjoy the campaign mods i play on ce to be quiet honest and thats what ce is for in my opinion. I just wish halo 4's ranking system was a bit more refined, more similar to halo 3's. Quote: --- Original message by: P3 And they made the elites alot less agile looking Elites i'd have to say are definitely agile, at least on legendary haha! I just wish the Promethean knights weren't bullet sponges as Higuy stated. I literally sprayed one with the suppressor and it just would not go down! Edited by The Barron on Nov 7, 2012 at 09:11 PM

ITS... A... GAME...
well it looked more like a compilation of TRON and STAR WARS with Halo in it, that made me sob. OK look, orange and blue? really? a Space Fighter? a gigantic ship of some sort?
SPOILER ALERT
I'd bet Installation 06 that Halo 5 would focus on the Sangheilians/Elites. Why? the Elite Terminal.

Then you did not read this thread, Higuy's review is "fairly" positive but not positive enough that it screams out "BEST HALO EVER".
Also keep in mind that MS pays prominent gamesites to write positive reviews. Like seriously. It's leaked out in the past that Ubisoft was paying a gamesite I often frequent, so that most likely means the same applies to other major sites and distributors. It's a form of advertisement, ever wonder why major gamesites always rate games ridiculously high? This is the reason.
Oh as for multiplayer, at the moment there are no rankings, and when they plan to make them visible it's apparently based on the same kiddy system as before. That means that in my case I wouldn't experience any incentive to win the game, no adrenaline rush like in Halo 2, where it actually took alot of effort and skill to rank up to anything beyond level 30. I found the game pretty damn amazing, loved the story and interested to see what Halo 5 will be about...
Spoiler: But one thing they can't do is kill off Cortana like that, she will HAVE to make a return in Halo 5.
Also interested to see what other changes the Chief has when the Librarian zapped him

Related video for the curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwD2GgWKIrsHmm... might as well just give out my opinion of the game. While I haven't played the game yet, I know that I would not enjoy as much as I would with previous titles in the Halo franchise. The game seriously lacks replayability value, unless you're a Xbox LIVE power user (i.e. paying out MS Points for new content).

Quote: --- Original message by: OHunterO How can you give your opinion of a game that you haven't yet played... Because I'm one of those people responsible for keeping the Halo wiki up to date. As such, I have this symptom of "information overload"... to such extent that I can make that opinion. And it has been quite accurate so far. More examples of lack of replayability value:
- Campaign being shorter/not the focus of the Halo 4 project - Halo 4 is like Battlefield 3: campaign being shorter and online multiplayer being the focus on why you should buy the game. Spartan Ops is essentially Firefight with no customisable options to tweak the amount of enemy you can put in. Gone are the days of Gruntpocalypse and my custom-favourite "Hunter Madness".
- Terminals cannot be accessed in the game: it is only accessible via Halo Waypoint - An alternate to this would be to look it up on YouTube but that's not the point. The whole idea is to be able to access what you bought on that game alone like you would in H3, HCEA and ODST.
- Game content focused more on online multiplayer than campaign - Not surprising. Microsoft wants to tap into the competitive multiplayer market. Since I seldom play online multiplayer and more of a party game, there's no real point of having it: Reach already fulfilled that role. Will miss pouches... even though they don't do anything.
- Theater mode cut out of campaign - Quite straightforward and somewhat nitpicky. The liberty to spend time and take campaign screenshots.

Played through the Halo 4 campaign on Heroic last night, and here are my opinions.
*****SPOILERS*****
---Pros--- - Way more character focus in this story - Use of teleporters for the first time in campaign - "Whoah cowboy!" cutscene moment - Hunters look freaking awesome - The Lich being like a flying Scarab in a way - Flying the Pelican and Broadsword (both control smoothly) - The Broadsword flying sequence itself; I had and absolute blast - Melting scientists! xP - Elites, to me, play almost just like Reach's; it felt familiar at least - Promethian Crawlers are easy work with the boltshot, which is in good supply - The Librarian sequence; good for filling in guys like myself on the story - Master Chief death screams sound like the Chief (lol) - Harkening back to H3 with "First line clear, push forward!" - Halo monk theme upon seeing Gamma Halo - Friendly guiding sentinels in that one chamber - Use of the Halo CE Forerunner glyph texture (you can see it on the core overlook platform) - "Never Forget" song in the credits
---Cons--- - B for crouch, no flashlight - Level rendering issues (also the reason for no theater ATM) - Music can be difficult to hear, even in some cutscenes - Aforementioned game sound decisions - Button-mashing sequences - The Banshee, 'nuff said - Storm Covies have rediculous choice in armor - (Forge-related) Monitor character model is really low-detail - UI design mimicking Metro (yuck)
Overall, I'd rank this game between Halo 2 and Halo CE in the grand scheme of things, thus far. I thought the campaign was solid and memorable at many points, and the story felt much more personal; it was a new approach. The game plays like Halo, but does not "feel" enough like Halo in my opinion. I do have high hopes for Halo 5 though, especially now that Earth is back in the picture. If we can get Hood, Arbiter, or Blue Team back in the picture, I have a feeling that we can get that Halo 3 comradery feeling back. Great work by 343.

What about the fact that they peeked into the CE community and took CMT SPV3's Needler crosshair design? Or was I the only one who noticed that? Or did CMT get the crosshair idea from halo 4 and i'm making myself look like an idiot for pointing it out?

I thought it was great, feels different and the mission story telling was a bit bland but the gameplay and visuals made it quite enjoyable.
