Mjolnir armor was a titanium alloy and it's been proven to survive reentry.

The material used on the ships.

it's the shields that make the ships tough, as MAC rounds and missiles still penetrate quite easily without them.

Well, they're terrible at AI and creating durable unshielded material.

Well, apparently, the only time they succeeded in making good metallic materials was when they made the Hunter armor.

It's probably more a matter of the sheer mass of the Hunter's armor I believe that in one of the books, one of the Spartans speculates that it seems to be the same material they use to armor their starships, which would explain why it's practically invulnerable to small arms fire; it's the equivalent of wrapping a modern soldier in Chobham composite tank armor.

Archer Missiles must be used in tremendous quantities for systems violate the Covenant shields. Even with the shields down, the ships of the Covenant have been able to continue operating after multiple direct hits from normal MAC rounds. lol not soo easy xD

I said the missiles penetrate easily without the shields, thank you for reading :P

also, in the books and halo 2 (and halo reach, but that was lame) MAC rounds practically 1-hit KO'ed most cruisers, hence the need to send in bomb squads to each individual MAC cannon around earth. In fact, in The Fall of Reach (book) the very first MAC round fired at a covenant cruiser penetrated straight through the shields and into the hull, which sent the covenant ship spinning and exploding seconds afterwards.

Don't mix Super MAC Guns and MAC Cannon. The ones on the platforms are supposedly "Super" whilst on a frigate it would be regular

I wonder how much stuff it would take to build a bunch of NOVA bombs.

As much stuff as it takes to build a nuclear warhead, times nine, then encase them in lithium triteride armor.
