Tool immediatly crashes when I start it up, and all it says in the debug is:
08.08.12 15:55:54 tool pc 01.00.00.0609 ----------------------------------------------
08.08.12 15:55:54 reference function: _write_to_error_file
08.08.12 15:55:54 reference address: 42ca20
08.08.12 15:55:54 Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'

How can I solve this?

No, I've been with the CE modding community for a few years, I just forgot how to set up cmd with tool.

Well I can't rename it or move it anywhere, because I need "permission from TrustedInstaller"....

The way i have my tool setup is. i locate cmd, and copy the executable and paste it in my halo directory along with tool, and just rename the copied cmd to something like "tool_.exe" and send a shortcut to my start menu. and tada!

I don't rename the cmd.exe I copy and paste in the Halo CE directory...I just run it and type in "tool (commands for tool here)" without the brackets.
@OP: see if this method works for you?

This is what I do.

However, if you can't copy and paste it, go to your cmd (C:\WINDOWS\ blah blah blah) and create a shortcut to your desktop.
Open your shortcut properties and then in the "Start in" section, put your halo ce root directory (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\"). <the quotation marks are required if there are spaces in the directory naming.

Well I changed the directory for it, but when I type in commands and press enter, it just opens up another tool, closes and the first one doesn't even process the command. It just sits there waiting for me to type a new one in as if I didn't even type a command in.

okay see if it works this way for you.

copy cmd from the system folder then paste in hce folder.
now right click and copy the cmd from hce folder.
go to desktop and right click to make shortcut.
double click cmd shortcut which is on your desktop and type tool commands.

you did overwrite tool.exe with cmd.exe, didn't you? re install HEK, then open cmd.exe and type
copy %COMSPEC% "%PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition"
