Make sure the ai has firing positions where you want them to follow the player

Hmm... Dunno about a script but I'll try and simplify that PDF...
1:) create your ai. 2:) create a heap of squads around the entire map with only move positions and no spawn points. 3:) tick the auto migrate box on all of the squads. 4:) on only 1 squad add your ai spawn points and then test. 5:) if it doesn't work... Someone make a video.... (it worked for me)
:)

This is gonna be a long one, so get comfortable. 1.) Create a encounter and give it a name. 2.) Within that encounter, create, say, ten squads. Name the first one whatever you like and leave the rest unnamed. Make your first encounter like this. http://www.flickr.com/photos/78643284@N05/7206559746/ The options not in the pictures will not matter for this explanation. Alright, now all your other squads can look like this. http://www.flickr.com/photos/78643284@N05/7206612966/ This specifically is you second squad, the one we use the name of in the "maneuver to squad" option for all of the squads. Make sure that this one has "A" in all of its slots and that the "A" firing patterns are placed the closest to your encounter (more on that later). 3.) Finally, place firing positions all over your map, trying to keep firing positions of the same letter (color) close together. The ai will move to the firing squad that is closest to you, so do not make too many firing positions of a certain letter for how many ai you have, or they will follow very far behind you. 4.) Do NOT make any move positions. Your ai will not need them, since they are following you around. You will however need to make starting positions. 5.) All right, scripting time! Use this: (ai_follow_target_players <encounter>) And that's it. If you have any questions or if I left anything out, please let me know. Enjoy! If the pictures that I included don't work for some reason, email me at rickreid555@gmail.com or PM me and I can send them to you. Edited by G_Maverick on May 15, 2012 at 09:13 PM

Maverick i tried yours and it didn't work, I think it would be best if someone made a really easy to follow video or a really simple PDF tut.

Did you have "automatic migration" checked for all the squads? If not the characters will just stand there. All of the maps that I create have characters that follow the player, so I must have left something out or you must have forgotten to do one of the steps.
How are your ai reacting? Are they moving around at all, or are they just going wherever they want to. Make sure you do not give them any move positions, only firing positions, and do not activate any "initiative" or command lines in the encounter.
I learned how to make ai follow the player by reading a tutorial written is Spanish (which I don't speak), so I had to play around with it before I found out more or less on my own. I found an English translation later, but it had some errors which caused the ai to not follow the player. It was definitely a trail and error method, but now that I know how to set it up, I want other people to learn as well, because let's face it, a map just isn't a map without your marine buddies. If you continue to have trouble, feel free to alert me to the problems you're having. Please send as much information about your problem as you can, maybe with a screenshot of your setup in Sapien.

What about their return and initial states, make sure those are both set to searching, both in the squad and in each starting location.
