Yeah, i downloaded a free model and hooked it up in Gmax, i'll rig it to the stock biped bones later, i'm busy now. But i wanted to be able to create custom bipeds, too.

The rig has more bones than halo can support per biped tho, so a re-rigging would be necessary Maybe he want's to actually learn something and create something of his own, instead of just ripping it that takes almost no skill at all...

True, but at the same time, he shouldnt be trying to start off with something thats supposed to be so rediculously high poly and instead start with something a bit more simple, like say the CE:A armor.
To be fair though, using CE3 SDK takes a lot of skill on its own, but i understand where you're coming from

Student editions take 3 years and are free. Use them. I'd advise not using 3ds Max 2012+ though; most tutorials that teach you how to do anything on this site are made obsolete by the new applications brought by 2012, one of these being how textures are applied to models. To put it plainly, 2012 and beyond are for professionals.

Actually i started with weapon modeling. i made a tavor and posted it a while back in the weapons thread Not to bad for my first real model ever. But that's just a weapon and i want to try something that would take more skill.

There really is no difference in anything. All tutorials can apply to any new version of max.
