i want it to still be a shader model because i still need the color change properties, but i want to know how i can add a bump map to it to make it look more 3-D for the style i'm going for. this will not be on the player but it will be on a biped that needs to be able to change colors.

Please respond soon, and thanks in advance :D.

shader model is only for use on non BSP in which case you can't use a bump map on it unless you are using OS. Sorry

I remembered seeing slappy the pirate post that he had the shaders for the spartan in his map valhalla that he was making and he wanted opinions of whether of not to use the bump map, i didn't think it was OS, oh well...Maybe i can find some way around it...

Would it work if in my gbxmodel tag i took the shader i wanted, hit copy, change the shader type of the copy to a shader transparent glass and applied the now bump map and reflection to it? then i would have a see through glass shader on top that would show the normal one underneath and have the reflection on the glass one with the bump map. do you think that would work?

E: Oh i'd be using kornman to do that btw.

shader_model cannot use bump/normal maps without opensauce. bump/normal maps do not show up on non-BSP objects (regardless of what shader type) without opensauce. You could add it, but it wont show up for non-OS users.

I highly disagree, i have taken a biped and switched out the shader_model tag for a shader_environment with a bump and it showed up perfectly fine, if memory serves correctly. I just can't figure out how to make it so i can have the color change along with the bump

The spartan was made by me. There is no way to add bump to a shader model without OS, even with switching to a shader environment, it does not work (your memory did not serve you.)

Sorry :(

Could've sworn i did it, my bad...Hmm :/...well does anyone know how to make an effect like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEjtqWLhlDo only using bitmap editing and animation instead? because i don't have 3ds and can't afford it.

Your memory serves you wrong, then.

Instead of a bump map use a multi map, which works real well on non-bsp objects.

Does it do similar things? i want the effect that the bump map has of being able to render height so it affects the reflection map. Will it do that?

It dosent have depth information but it does have reflection and where it should go, aslo lights, and color permutations.

You can grab gmax free, and if your a student then you can get 3dsmax free (idk how it checks if your a student, it never asked me for any proof or anything lol. Although I did use my school e-mail address, so I guess it could find out from there)

Anyways, if you really don't care about what im saying, you can use other types of bitmap animation to do similar stuff, by spending 100x more :effort:.

multipurpose maps control stuff like shine. Doing that, you alter the shine to give the illusion of depth by making certain areas shiner.

A lot of people dislike people who do that, so if you do that, expect time to time random people to just randomly hop out to bash you for no apparent reason.
