okay guys i just spent a fair bit of time dealing with errors and now sapien and ahobo will not load a scenario.
(new motherboard) since i last had used sapien. still windows xp 2 cpu's, i have looked around and found that i needed to run sapien on 1 cpu, tried that it still gives the same message.

Cannot allocate required memory. some other application has loaded where Halo needs to be located.

cheers guys

XP you say? I'v read this error has something to do with Internet Explorer versions higher than 6, I'm not sure though as I don't use XP.
I read somewhere that you can try unistalling IE and installing an older version, I'm not sure how to do this, as I didn't really pay attention. (This is what I read about the game itself, not sapien/ahobo.)

It shouldn't be causing problems, maybe the OP's problem fixed itself coincidentally when he uninstalled avast and reinstalled AVG.

Anyway, try these solutions first before you consider uninstalling avast:
1. Check if there are any Halo-related programs running by checking the processes in Windows Task Manager (yes, "Halo-related programs" include any HEK processes and HEK+)
2. Restart your computer and try running the HEK program you want to run again.
3. Disable the avast File System Shield when you run the HEK program(s) and re-enable it once you are done. (This applies to avast 6, so if you are using avast 4.8, you could try something similar, like disabling avast temporarily?)
4. Hell, if all else fails, backup your tags folder and reinstall the HEK.

PS: Hope I ain't threadjacking :P

Odd enough. Been using avast for years without this problem, now that you have it....
