Why is this website giving me corrupt files? Even ones I already have downloaded to test if they were corrupt and they were, so if any one can tell me why it's happening adn how to fix it, please don't be afraid to help. That would great if you could help. Thanks.

It sounds like you might be placing your tag folders in the wrong place. All tags in Halo must reference there exact location, so if you place them in the wrong folder, it will not be able to find them. For example, if you would move the "pistol.gbxmodel" to another folder, it would return that you are missing the file.

Look in your Halo Custom Edition folder and look for a file called debug.txt, open it and copy-paste the last paragraph here.

what do you mean by "corrupt files"? Do you mean that you can't open the Zip file? If so then it is a problem with your system either you are timing out or cutting off the download, you are using a download manager/acceleration or there is malware on your PC that is causing it.

By corrupt files I mean they don't work. Does it matter if I am using Windows Vista with Winrar? And I might have 4 copys of the Trojon Horse virus on my laptop, I don't know if I do or don't.

No, but seriously, do a THOROUGH virus scan (that crappy built-in Norton doesn't do **** - I suggest Avira Antivir), delete any suspicious files, then try again.

You need to be more specific. What do you mean "they don't work"? After the download can you extract the files in the zip archive? If not then the download was cut off or the file corrupted on your PC. If you CAN extract the files then the download was OK (one of the reasons we zip everything) so you need to explain in more detail what the files were and how they "didn't work". Again: in detail. Kreskin no longer works here so we can't read your mind.

By they don't work and they are courrupt, I mean I can't use them, extract them, repair them or anything to use them, they just don't want to seem to download properly. I am using WINRAR but does that have anything to do with it? I use WINRAR because of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. sorry for not explaing the way you understand. thanks.

If you can not extract the contents of the zip archive then either your downloads are not completing in which case the file would be corrupt or else you have malware on your computer.

I now know I do have malware on my laptop and there reasons are 1. System has dramaticly slowed down. 2. Some programs crash for no reason. And 3. Almost every time I use disk cleanup it uses space instead of giving space. Also I did have malware on my laptop for quite some time (8 months) and other downloads from this site still worked. I can download every thing but Single Player and Multi Player maps. Don't know why thats happening and its weird. And for some reason one map decided to fix its self after about 5 days (covenant desert). Thats all for now.

your sure it's not a hardware problem slowing your pc down?
like bad ram etc.

your speech of malware, is interesting, you know files that either contain it or not have to be allowed on your pc in the first place right?

don't just think that something might or is safe just because other people have downloaded or used it, check it out.
i have no idea what sort of protection you are using as you have not mentioned so...
try this http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage
also use a good firewall.

and use for scanning files that you downloaded before making them active on your pc
use an online file scanner...
http://www.virustotal.com/
or
http://virusscan.jotti.org/en-gb
or
http://onlinescan.avast.com/

remember your responsible for what you put on your own pc, no one reaches out and places it there.

goodluck.

Well, you can always try Avira Antivir. There are paid versions, and free versions. I have the free version, and it hasn't failed me in well over 3 years. I can only imagine what the paid versions do... *drools*

Not very likely I will get any anti-virus program because of the VERY LITTLE space I've got (12.6MB since this was this posted) and I just don't know why but I've tried Norton, AVG and Avira Antivir and they just seem to let the virus do its job. But I tried on my Nanna's COMPUTER (NOT laptop) on the same internet connection (she has DSL/Cable and I have WIRELESS) and it worked and she has the same viruses and the same amount of them and it still worked. Explain that. Does'ent work on my lapton but it does on her computer with the same connection but I have wireless and her computer does'ent work as good as mine. Not to be rude or anything.

Use that to clean unnecessary space.

Or just do a re-installation of your Windows OS and install a good anti-virus before going onto "certain" websites. That'll clean up your hard drive COMPLETELY and there'll be no more viruses.

If you don't know how to do that, go to your local computer store and ask them to do it for you.

Might want to upgrade your hard drive while you're at it.

I can't go to the computer store because my Nanna won't take there (well not yet), and I know it is at the shops just down the road from my place but I don't know which one it is though. And the Windows OS, I have no idea what that is, I'm only 14. sorry I just don't want to go on any site I havent been on before because of the space and virus problem. I did ask my Nanna if she could take to the computer store to get them to wipe the laptop hard drive clean (not the external hard drive) but she is asking how much it will cost and I don't know and I even tell her I don't know. If you can estimate how much it is in Australian dollers, please, I will even thank who ever does find out.

Windows OS = Windows Operating System (like XP, Vista, 7).

Over here in Canada, people charge about $50+ for a complete system backup/reinstallation. I'm sure if you at least know which computer store is the closest to you, you can go to their website and check the prices there.

Or don't tell your nanna to go to the closest store to wipe everything and do it yourself. If you have a copy of windows xp, then you can reinstall the OS, quite easy actually, and when formatting the harddrive, it allows you to delete everything on the harddrive before reformat it.
I'm only 14 too :/ age doesn't matter.

1 I don't know what needs to be deleted from C: drive because I don't know much about computers, all I do is play Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (GTA SA) and Halo CE MAYBE Flight Simulator X (10) and one of Auran Trainz Simulator's.

And 2 I can't wipe everything from the C: drive because I have Windows Vista and I don't know anything much about my laptop. sorry, but all I wanted to know is why this site is giving me corrupt map files and how to fix it. Not being rude though but this website doesent do that on the same internet conection in the house on my Nanna's computer. BTW I live with my Nanna because of school (the school is just at the edge of my back fence).
Can the person who runs this site update it please?Edited by jneum16 on Oct 21, 2011 at 01:58 AM

If you had a desktop, I'd suggest getting an extra hard drive, but considering it's a laptop AND Vista...

Sounds like you're SOL buddy...

But he doesn't even know how to do a reinstallation of Windows - and I doubt his Nanna (mom?) would let him go to a computer store and have them

A: Wipe the laptop's hard drive

B: Install a (at minimum) $89.99 OS

C: Do the above for an additional ~$50+ cost.

If he had an original Vista DVD to reinstall his OS, then we might be able to get somewhere. As it stands, though, I don't think there's much that we can do.

Alright, so I have the space to download the map but it doesent download properly, I have no idea what the rest of you are talking about between my last post and this one and the one before this one IT IS MY NANNA AND NOT MY MUM (I am Australian) and she DOESENT have the MONEY FOR THE PROBLEM and I MOST CERTAINLY DON"T HAVE THE MONEY EITHER. and I don't want WINDOWS 7 because what I have is easy for me to use and please don't tell me that the system is full of bugs, and I am not happy with this website not letting me have any maps because all I can get is EVERYTHING BUT MAPS. Sorry if I offended any one with what I am saying. .

You always have to extract maps when you download them from here :|

Also, you did say you have malware/viruses/spyware/etc. on your computer (along with only 12MB of hard drive space left), so we said that you should get rid of the unnecessary crap that's installed (including viruses), OR do a complete system reinstall, both of which you declined in doing.

.ZIP files downloaded from here are usually compressed to a small size (i.e. 12MB), and extracted take up far more space (e.g. 128MB), so don't blame us for files you can't extract/play. It's not our fault that your hard drive is so clogged with crap that it probably can't even do a Defrag at this point.

I say again: Get rid of the unnecessary crap on your computer or do a fresh reinstallation of your operating system. We can NOT help you if it's a hardware issue on your end.

How the hell do you only have 12mb free? Is your hard drive from 2001 or something?

Maybe the harddrive is so fragmented that nothing new can be cleanly written to the disc.

You only have 12 MB free? that could be the problem here. The map you downloaded is most likely bigger than 12 MB and so your hard drive doesn't have enough space to extract the map.

Solution:

- Delete some crap
- Move some other crap to an external hard drive
