How can I import a weapon model, change the ID material of some faces, export it and compile the gbx model?

I already know how to import the model and create the new material ID. I can convert the material to editable mesh and edit ID used by the faces, but I don't know how to return it from the editable mesh state so I can finish it up. I need to know what to do after this step.
I also need to link the node to the model and export it, then compile the model. Is there any other GBX model importer that imports models with more than two material IDs? I use the v2 GBX model importer by The Ghost.

To export, make sure mesh is linked to appropriate node and all nodes area ttached to a master node (frame gun)

If you have 3ds max 2009+ get bluestreak and export

If you have anyting up to 3ds Max 8 use Blitzkreig

Alright, the first line is pretty useful, but the thing is I forgot what the link button looks like (I use max 8).
Didn't I have to link the frame_gun to the gun model and the frame_whatever to its corresponding region? Also, I need a little more detail when it comes to exporting with blitzkrieg.

EDIT: If you're curious, I'm adding another three shaders for the sniper rifle model on the top of the stock, a thin line just under the sniper screen, and the user facing part of the scope for a different detail map. I want this so I can have different reflection properties for the gray metal and dark gray metal.
