Hello all, first time posting on this forum but there may be a few of you that know me from over at ModHalo.

I'm not new to CE at all, but I have had an interesting predicament that I can't seem to figure out. I downloaded the complete tagset for the campaign from the site, but there are some problems that pretty much destroy the gameplay.

In Sapien, when I load the BSP a10_b and the subsequent BSPs, certain bipeds (always marines) are "pushed" out of the map area and deleted by Sapien. I believe it's because of the hangar BSP overlapping with the main level, and the vehicles for that area force the bipeds out of the level. Also, when compiled, there are no major issues when compiling that I can see, but during the opening cutscene, the music is totally screwed, and Keyes doesn't go about his routine and the cutscene stops after Keyes remarks about the 'blind jump'. This can be skipped, but the cutscene when Chief meets with Keyes is also really messed up. Once skipped, Keyes gives me the magnum but the cutscene doesn't end for some reason, keeping me trapped on the bridge, unable to end the cutscene.

I've managed to edit campaign maps before (I have made an ASCM version of c10), but this particular map always gives me trouble. Any insight to this would be extremely helpful.

Well hi EN.

You can just fix them manually by moving marine spawn points and adding cutscene end commands.

My solution to tag problems is always to make do with a fresh start.

Backup any tags you want to keep (or the maps you got them from, the latter is the best option), and reinstall HEK.

After the reinstallation, use HEK+ to rip all of the Halo PC campaign maps (and at least one MP map) before ripping from any Halo CE map. Remember when ripping, keep the "Overwrite Tags" checkbox EMPTY!

After doing all of this, try loading up the BSP's again. It should work fine. If not, post the last paragraph of the debug.txt located in your HCE root folder and we'll work from there.

Oh, hey, CK. Halo modding is a drastically shrinking world these days. Heh.
I haven't written any code for this game before, but I'll see what I can do.

I have considered starting over, since my current tagset sucks and I don't know where the error is occuring. Maybe a manual rip of the campaign rather than whatever I'm using would help. I'll see where this goes.

EDIT: I've reinstalled HEK, extracted Halo PC's campaign tags (no overwrites), and tried compiling a10 without editing anything. I get this:

I haven't gotten this before, and I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas? I think it has something to do with compatibility between HPC and HCE, but I'm not sure.

Your map has way too many tags in it.

How can this be? The only tags in the map are those used to make the map in the first place. I haven't even added tags to the tags folder, save for those needed to compile campaign maps.

I'm perplexed by this...

the a10 errors you listed are fairly simple to fix and common.

1. delete all a10 dialog tags and music (this includes the sounds in the sinomatix folders too) and re extract from default halo pc

2.Make sure if you are using Zteams campaign and ui scripts that you use the a10.scenario that comes with it, because a few things are changed in the script and the level will have some quirks if you don't

this should, more than likely, fix the errors on a10, but if it doesn't post what is still wrong and we'll go from there.

PS in all honesty this didn't really require you to reinstall hek, sorry I couldn't have posted before you did, because these fixes only take like five minutes and my gut tells me you probably have spent much longer on this than needed.

All of the dialog tags I have right now are straight from Halo PC. Only problem now is that for whatever reason it's saying I've exceeded the tag size, which is dumb considering the fact that I'm using the exact same tagset that was used to build the map in the first place. It simply won't compile now. Hmm.

EDIT: I am making no progress with this. the HEK insists that there's a tag size problem.

Why is it doing this? There can't be an excess of tags; I haven't added anything to my tags folder. I'm using zteam's scenario files and scripts, if it helps any.
Is there perhaps a size problem with the assets themselves? Maybe I'll replace my campaign tags with those I downloaded from this site and see where that goes.

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION happens when you rerip all the tags from halo pc. Basically it means what it says, you don't have access to these maps.

download this: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=5832 and overwrite all your tags (make a backup tags folder [copy and paste another version of your tags folder somewhere] so you don't lose any tags or so you can always go back to square 1)

and immediately after rerip all the sp dialog and music from the maps (and don't ask why, just trust me on this I'm kind of an expert on campaign errors because I've had basically every error in the book, bad luck hits me like white on rice)

Let me know if anything else goes wrong.

AND FOR FUTURE REFERENCE don't reinstall hek and make a "fresh start" unless you exhaust every last option and you are SURE it is the only way to fix the error, and ALWAYS make a copy of you're entire tags folder, if you don't want to wait 30mins for it to paste then don't bother reinstalling hek, no offense UBE Chief but you kinda screwed him and made his life quite a bit harder than it needed to be, and reinstalling hek and getting a new tags folder should never be the first thought that comes to mind when getting an error, you may want to work on your problem solving strategies.

Phew. Thanks a million, man. That was really annoying me thar :P

Gonna try to throw the H2 Marines in there now and hope it doesn't crash. I was working on a tagset but it kinda sucked which is another reason I got rid of my tags folder.

Again thanks.
