okay in this test map i just added a basic model and ran structure with no problems.but then in sapien this how part of the texture looks, what would cause this?

no i didn't add smoothing i just wanted to make sure there was no problems with how it was modelled.

The smoothing groups should be fixed... even if it looks right in max, lightmaps/radiosity can make it look weird like that.
