I'm trying to edit my Jackals so they always spawn with helmets. But when I remove the helmetless permutation, they end up looking like this:

The look a little.... singed. How do I make it so they keep their skin and armor colors, but only spawn with a helmet?

^They should look like this. Un-singed.^

IIRC the stock jackals have some messed up stuff going on with their change-color settings. Either get rid of/change the CC permutations in the biped tag(s) or edit the shader_models so you don't have that problem.

Apparently public enemy number 1?

open the default gbxmodel, go down to the permutations, pick head base00, click the flag "Cannot be chosen randomly" then when it goes through the list to see what heads it can pick, it will skip the default head and always use the armored one.

Ooh, thanks, that should help. You can haz cookie.

Now does anyone know how I can disable the shield? I tried setting its health to zero, and setting it to "disappear when shields deplete", but it's still there.

start by tossing shield health in collision to 0, in the shield region, do the same idea with the shield permutations. Set the base00 to "cannot be chosen randomly" and rename ~shield_off (since its a special name the game knows) aswell as unchecking "cannot be chosen randomly" then in the collision, in the shield area, name the new permutation to what ever you just named it in the model. Do this with a duplicate, or back up the originals, as you probably don't want every jackel ever to be like that.

It will probably set the shield permutation automatically if you just limit the shield at 0, but the other stuff will insure it always starts at the shieldless permutation.

Thank you again. I'm toying around with the idea of a new class of Jackal, so this won't be for all of them, only a specific few.

Success. *fistpump*

A better more easier solution:

Go to the jackal. gbx,

Scroll down to the regions area and it will show a few sections.
Choose head. Now you will see one called "armored head" and another call "base00".

Next select the "base00" and check "cannot be chosen randomly."

This will make it so that the "armored head" is the only one selected each time.

Now save as separate gbx and there you go, a helmet-only jackal.
