Well it's the same as it would be in any other texture program. Get a texture, copy the texture to a new image and past in as the red channel, then adjust brightnesses, contrasts, and levels until you achieve the multi you are looking for to give appropriate reflections for whatever you are making then adjust with small brushes as needed if some things look hinky. That's how I do it, I know some people would be like "WTF?" but my results I have been getting have been looking phenomenal compared to a lot of stuff I have seen on halomaps and I haven't tried other methods as of yet.

Actually I was going to make some tutorials on how I do some stuff, and show some of my results. Sure I probably do a lot of stuff wrong compared to the way most people believe it should be done as far as making reflection maps, but if they want to intervene and show me a better way I am glad to learn it. So yeah expect me to post a few things here sometime. I'll let you know when I have it up here.
